Turi.....Yes, emphasizing. With a little bit of self depricating humor thrown-in. I stole that line from the one and only Homer Simpson. He was being interviewed by kent Brochman on "Smartline" and used that as an excuse when he was caught red-handed in an indefensable situation by Brochman.

Women in the mob? Why not? Can't remember who said it, but quote was something like 'women are the more deadly of the species'... any species, in my own opinion. as a former corrections officer, i know women who can hit you like you were shot, or men who couldn't bend a tissue... judgement call for the sex issue, but for those who look hard, they will pull up a case a few years ago of a wife who bumped a few of her husbands' bad business associates...

Gurat...I find it interesting that you have used absolutely no logic in making your point, and don't think it should even be dignified with a response... but I had to say something. In response to Sonny'sGirl's original question I don't see any problem with women in the mafia, as long as they were the right one's. A woman who'd act weak and succumb to the usual sterotypical behavior associated with the gender would obviously not work... but look at Fredo, weakness, simplemindedness and over emotional behavior can be appear in either gender!

I once read that mafia women most of the time were heavily involved in the business, especially during the times their men were in prison. The mafia wife that's only in the kitchen and with the children was called a mythe. However, a woman as godfather would be impossible, cause it's all about respect and tradition, and mafia men simply don't respect a woman in such a way.
...and all that's left is our friendship.

Mafia is not a term to describe Cosa Nostra accurately. The Cosa Nostra forbids women, though Carmine Galante wanted his daughter inducted before his murder in 1979. The Mafia, like Russian, Chinese and what have you, dont have codes of honor or rules like this, it's a free for all. Women are very much involved in those.

That's pretty much what I caught on about the Mafia. The Cosa Nostra, namely in America, is male-only. Yet, the restrictions used to be much more stringent. You needed to be from Sicily or else. Then Lucky Luciano stepped in and say, look we're fighting eachother over which part of sicily we're from. This kind of crap is blackening our name and what we stand for. Thanks to him, many more gangsters were approved, as the requirements where from then on, Italian Descent, and now simply to have had an Italian father. Lucianno is as important to organized crime was Meyer Lanksy or Capone, because without him, The Commission (ruling board of the mafia) would not exist. He help build the foundations that kept the mob going until Valachi and beyond.
