Ok why is John Gotti referred to as the Dapper/Teflon Don?

My Oxford English dictionary says for 'Dapper'....neat, smart in appearance or movement.

Thats sounds right to me, is it? And what about Teflon?

Maybe he was "...the best dressed gangster..." of his time.

I remember reading somewhere that his suits were maticulously made that even the painters in the court-room were confused regarding the shades of color.

The "Teflon" part refers to a "non-stick" material used to cover pots and pans making cleanup a lot easier. During the late 80's and early 90's Gotti was constantly being charged with many crimes, but the prosecutors couldn't get any of the charges to "stick" (Gotti was always found "innocent" in court).

That all changed when Sammy Gravano turned against him.

I remember reading about the disappearance of the guy who accidentally killed Gotti's son (Frank). I think his name was something Favarra.

He was never found after his kidnapping and was declared dead after six years of being missing.

Although it was general belief that Gotti was behind the incident, it was never proven.

Thanks it all makes sense now. Not just this but life in general. Just messing but its really has helped.

Sonny I recently heard of that too. It was a neighbour coming home form work. He was called Favara and his son and frank were freinds. Favara ended up running over Frank accidentally.

Heres a link to the full story.

If only I found this site sooner I wouldnt have had to made this post!!

John Favara was killed by Gotti yes. Ruthlessly and uselessly. Shows that you shouldnt have gangsters for neighbours eh?

Yeah, Dapper Don because he showed up at court and in public with $2,000 Brioni suits and Teflon Don because he got out of 3 major court cases before he was finally indicted.
The neighbor was planning to leave town after the behest of friends and family and never quite made it. Rumor has it he was killed with a chain saw, limb by limb, but its only a rumor.

On a side note. Tony 'Ducks' Corallo, head of another family was also called 'Ducks' because he 'ducked' or avoided sentences. However, he got caught up with the RICO case that got all the bosses.

Tony Ducks was very smart. His office was his Jaguar, and he kept it under tighter security than a bank vault at night. But one night he had a moment of weakness and at a party he left it in the street. An undercover FBI agent planted the Bug and from 1983 onwards, he was heard badmouthing Ex-Bonnano Boss, Joseph Bonanno, who had released a book in 1983 which landed in in jail for three years for contempt and gave away many mafia secrets. He was also heard ranting about how the FBI harrasses him and how they wouldnt dare follow him or get him on a RICO charge. Later on, around 1984-85 he is heard saying he knows he's got it coming, he just doesnt know how. He was so right.
