I'm reading UNDERBOSS right now. It's a good read. Anybody else with me?

I've got the book but havn't started it yet as i'm reading a few others. Next on me list is obviously The Family so Underboss will have to wait a little longer.

From what i've quickly looked at it, it looks like it is going to be a good read and i'll probably like it more than Gotti because it's Sammy's own autobiography. And not just based on Phone taps etc.

very good read. I liked it. yeah, he tried to make himself look like a hero, but it didn't ruin the book.

When did you read it?

uh, 3, 4 weeks ago. maybe 5...don't remember. I returned it to the library two weeks ago and I had had it finished for a bit, so, yeah, 3 or 4 weeks. why?

but im curious you have some people who are from my area,when you read the book take his
story in stride,remember who he is and what hes done in his life,not all his stories are
valid,he very seldom talks about gotti and he
has terrible conflicting stories on his accounts of the crimes that were commited
as to who really did them-he does make himself out to be a lacky or a scape-goat but
the truth is that hes a stone gangster-killer

I read it over 2 years ago...but I agree its a good read. Probably has to do more with Peter Maas writing it than it does with Sammy the Bull being the subject of it. I'm sorry, I have little sympathy for Gravano.

I haven't read it yet. I'm finishing up Murder Machine right now, and have also just started The Family. I recently read Bill Bonnano's book, I think its called Bound by Blood or something. I really liked that one.

I have Underboss from the library, but I'll proabably read this thread to see what other people think. So far it seems most of you agree that it is a good read, so I will probably give it a try next.

Underboss is truly a splendid book but I like the Rise and Fall of John Gotti better

Sammy "the bull" Gravano could be facing 15 years in prison, on the charges of running an ecstasy ring. Sammy Gravano hit the headlines back in 91, when he stunned the New York Mafia when he decided to rat out boss of the Gambino crime family, his best friend john Gotti. Sammy testified against John Gotti, sentencing him to a life behind bars. In return for his testimony Gravano the murderer of 19 people, received a staggering 5 years, 2 of which he had already served and was released into the witness protection program around 94 or 95 where he was allowed to keep millions of dollars from his ill-gotten gains. Under a new identity of Jimmy Moran, Gravano was located in phoenix, Arizona, where he attempted to rehabilitate himself in leaving the life of crime behind.

Soon enough though Sammy was up to his old tricks again as he developed a new crew including his son Gerard. Gerard a promising medical student and now heavily into steroids and pumping iron, had become very friendly with the leader of a supremeist drug dealing gang known as the Devil Dogs. Micheal Papa leader of the gang teamed up with Gerard and his Father Sammy Gravano and set up a major ecstasy ring using a number of Arizona nightclubs in order sell massive amounts of ecstasy.

On February 24th 2000, the DEA swooped on a number of addresses all over Phoenix, arresting 45 suspects including that of Sammy, Gerard and his wife Debbie. Also arrested was the gang leader Michael Papa and many members of his gang. Sammy now faces the possibility of 15 years behind bars, 15 years that no doubt will make many of his murder victims families very happy indeed. Also the ailing John Gotti now dying with throat cancer will probably have a similar smirk on his face to the one he used to wear when he was forever getting chased around New York by the T.V crews that loved to follow Gotti everywhere he went.

Much of the evidence against Sammy was collected thanks to an informer in the Devil Dogs crew that was working with the DEA. Ironic that Sammy gets ratted out by another rat.
The charges against Sammy have brought much embarrassment to the FBI field office in New York, who must have been convinced by Sammy's performance on telling them he had finished with crime when he as debriefed in 91. Rumours say that Sammy is trying for a new deal, but it looks as if Sammy will now go to jail for some time to come.

As yet it is not known exactly what will happen to Sammy's protégé Gerard his son, but speculation is saying that Gerard will face some kind of sentencing, but to what degree we will have to wait and see. We will be following this story avidly, and therefore we promise to keep you right up to date with the events of this amazing story.
