Clemenza question:

Why was Clemenza,a caporegime, taking part in the killings?
I guess theres no real reason for that other than him being so good at it and his love for the "action"?
He did Carlo coz he was good with the rope.
He did Strachi in the elevator as well,so its not just the rope,I guess he was also just as good as the young hitmen, and I guess he also wanted to stay "active"...but was it wise of Michael to use one of his top Caporegimes for the hits?

ok,the Carlo hit was no big risk, but I think Michael should have used someone else to do Strachi, even if Clemenza is very good.what do you think?

Tessio question :

When Tessio learns that he's a dead man,he's moving his hand to his coat, but he's stopped by one of the buttonmen, who takes his gun.
Do you think Tessio was reaching for his gun?I mean what other 'business' hes got to do with his coat...

So my question is...what in the world???
3 buttonmen around him and Tessio actually thought of blasting his way out??

I honestly think Tessio was just going to hand over the gun, he was a man of honor. He probably had to do the same thing to other people many times in his life, he knew the routine.

I believe it is Cicci who takes the gun from him and it appears to me as there is an understanding between them. Tessio going to hand over the gun, Cicci knows he is just going to hand it over but he still has to take it from him.

Clemenza took part in the killings because Michael trusted him, and because he was showing loyalty.
I don't think Tessio was reaching for a gun--it was just a gesture. He knew it was all over the moment Tom said, "I can't come either," and all those guys surrounded him.

Sonny was Clemenza's godson, so he was personally avenging his killing by taking care of Carlo.

If that was his thinking, what did he have to lose?

And maybe he thought it was better to die quickly in a gun battle, not knowing that perhaps Michael had a more tortuous way planned for him to go.

I agree, Clemenza was avenging his God son and also it was smart to use Clemenza in the hits. I dont think Tessio was gonna make any attempt to shoot, maybe get shot in the process of handing over his piece....

The will to survive is immense. I think that perhaps Tessio was acting on instinct, although he knew there was no way out for him.

As for Clemenza, I think he did take this all very personal, and felt that he performed the hits as a way of getting back for what all the other families had done to the Corleones over the years.
