Why dont the American mobbosses go in hiding, just like the Sicilians? Toto Riina wasn't found for i believe around 20 years, Liggio was aslo a long-time-fugitive, and Provenzano still is! Why dont the American mob-bosses go in hiding? I thought Vittorio Amuso was a fugitive for 3 years, but he was the only one...

Some American Mob bosses did hide out, in their own ways: --To escape prosecution by a new, reform-minded political regime in Chicago (and threats from other Mob bosses), Al Capone in 1929 arranged to have himself arrested in Philadelphia for carrying an unlicensed gun. He served a year in a Pennsylvania prison until things cooled down in Chicago and he was able to return and regain his position. --Joe Bonanno disappeared for more than a year in the mid-Sixties, after the Commission tried to strip him of his Donship and replaced him with his second-in-command, Gaspar di Gregorio, which set off a major war. Bonanno claimed that he was kidnapped by his cousin, Stefano Magaddino, the Don of Buffalo, NY, who was chairing the Commission at the time. But others (notably Jerry Capeci of ganglandnews.com) believe that he arranged his own disappearance to escape several Federal indictments. --Vincent (the Chin) Gigante for years "hid" under the guise of being mentally incompetent. He walked the streets of New York in pajamas and bathrobe, talking to trees, being escorted by relatives, etc. That's how he became the only one of the five NYC Dons to escape a RICO indictment in the famous "Commission" case (Castellano was murdered, and the other three went to prison for life). He also escaped other indictments by feigning mental illness. He only recently admitted that it was a fraud, and is now in prison--but for a far shorter sentence than if he'd been indicted under RICO.

I liked the Chin's method! He evaded the rap for so long with the crazy man act.. Brilliant! I've tried the same method with my wife but with little success

So your point is that Cosimo is the boss over there, and not his dad,Paolo? Never heard that one before...

Yeah, who knows...maybe the old man made his son boss,to draw the attention away from him.Like you said,it's hard to say, since Cosimo was arrested! Always thought the old Di Lauro was pulling the strings, thanx for the info!
