I'm curious to know what people think about the possibility of a fourth Godfather film. Most people, I know, think it's out of the question. I'm not asking if you WANT a Part IV, I'm just asking if you think there ever will be one.

If they're able to make a part IV that's as good as I or II, then sure. I would love to know what happened to the Corleone family when Vincenzo rules, and also I would like to know about the years in between the flashbacks in II and part I when Vito builds up his empire, with the help of Luca Brasi. But since Puzo died, I know it wouldn't be a good movie. D.M.L

Don't do it. Gatsby found out- "You can't repeat the past."
Look at some of the sequels that have followed classics, Superman III and IV, The Two Jakes (Chinatown), Gone With the Wind II(TV)... To me, they diminish the memory of the previous films, they are unnecessary, made soley to cash in on a legacy and they are doomed to a hostile and sceptical audience. Particularly given the time elapsed since pIII, which clearly did not cry out for a sequel. III only made money at all because of rentals. The best way to fulfill fans of the trilogy is to present the best version imaginable on DVD, which is already on the way. Coppolla, by the way, could always make another film about family or crime. Better that than to make films like "Jack" or something. Scorsese has gone to the well many times with similar-themes and resisted making a sequel except for "The Colour of Money", but that wasn't his originally. So just say no, Coppola
I hope they will have the decency to clear my name with the same publicity with which they have now besmirched it.

I don't think there ever will be one because Michael is accually the main character in all three Godfather movies so a fourth without him I think won't be a succes. They could however make a film about the youth of Vito more streched then in part to, really add all the details. Maybe that's an idea.

If they did one, and I am not sure if they should, I would like to see it set in the period of Vito's rise to power, like the flashback scenes in GF2; it would require a new cast probably, and the attention to detail like in GF2.

Sonny's Girl you are right on with that one. It is The Godfather Trilogy after all, anything else would be a pandering attempt to milk the cash cow one more time. Barrel scraping Hollywood cheese. Let us all be content with the beauty of the original, the vintage.

Rather than a new film, what about a seies of novels set from the shooting of Mary onwards? Star Wars has enjoyed some success from these kind of books, as has James Bond. Obviously it would be important to get the right author to continue in the traditions if not the style of Puzo. Suggestions anyone?

If they are gonna make it, they had better hurry. DeNiro is getting old, and as far as I know any plans to do a GF4 were to deeply involve DeNiro reprising his role as Don Vito Corleone in the same capacity II was made. So hurry up and decide, the greatest actor of all time (Bob DeNiro) is not getting any younger!!

With all due respect to Puzo, I think he made a good contribution but there must be others who can contribute as well as he did. He didn't have exclusive information about La Cosa Nostra did he? As for GF4, I think there must be an end to the story as to whether the family was successful or not in achieving the aim of almost every "fictional La Cosa Nostra" family (acquiring substantial powers through illegal activities and then escape into the legal world without excessive troubles.).

I doubt if there ever will be a GF4, as Puzo is now gone and Coppola said at the revealing of the Godfather DVD collection that thre would be no GF4. I heard that Leonardo DiCaprio was rumoured to be taking the part of a young Sonny, if GF4 ever went ahead. One word. Why? Caprio looks nothing like James Caan and nothing like the Sonny character. Sonny was only 29 in GF1, so a young version of him would look vitually the same, so a similar looking actor would be required. Thats why Robert DeNiro was such a good choice for Vito. I can only wonder, what if DeNiro had the role of Paulie in GF1 that was originally intented, what would happen with the role of young Vito in GF2? Perhaps Marlon Brando could have been made to look younger, he was only 48 at the time. And as the studio gave Copolla an unlimited budget for GF2, they could have easily afforded Brando.
Oh well, as much as i would love a GF4, I fear they would just tell the same story again, but with different characters. Perhaps if it was all set in the past, with the periods of Vito's rise to power covered in more detail and the period between GF1 and GF2...

noledge if DeNiro DID play Paulie, maybe they would have followed the back. There NEVER would have been a Don Ciccio, Vito's father would have killed him. We would ahve continued into the 30's after fanucci, and vito meets clem and tess. brando would've played a SLIGHTLY younger Vito. Luca could have came back, DeNiro could have changed the WHOLE Godfather Trilogy.

That would have been interesting if you think about it.

I think the journey to Godfather 4 would beat the arrival. I think we'd probably enjoy talking about how good it is going to be and rumours we had heard about it more than the actual film, which I feel would probably be a bit disappointing

Because Paramount owns the rights to the godfather, couldnt they actually hire another director and put it out without FFC? Or does FFC have to give permission, legally?

is anyone actually even seriously fathoming the creation of a 4th series. it'd be presumptuous to do so w / o Mario Puzo. without the author's contribution, the flick would be ableit credibility.
