A deal has been signed with Puzo's publishers to film 'Godfather IV' in Melbourne? Random House has nothing to do with any future 'Godfather' movies, they don't even have a say in where it's shot and who stars in it. Paramount Pictures owns the rights to 'The Godfather'.
And there is no word on what the story is going to be about, the Leo DiCaprio/young Sonny stuff was from Puzo himself. He wrote up a draft for a possible fourth movie which did have the young Sonny as the back story. But since he died, that has been put on the back burner because the book deal is with Mark Winegardner, Random House and the
Mario Puzo estate, not Paramount Pictures.
Francis Coppola has stated he would not do another 'Godfather' film without
Mario Puzo. So, if there is going to be another movie, it probably won't have Coppola attached. If there is no Coppola, Al Pacino is not very likely to return either, especially since he recently stated his regret in taking part in 'Godfather III'. Those who follow the 'Godfather' legacy as much as I do know there cannot and should not be a 'Godfather' movie without Michael and writer/director Francis Ford Coppola.
