I think Scorsese, pretty clear-cut. Lucas? Nah, unless we want to see Luca Brasi become an 8-foot-tall computer-generated frog-man speaking retarded Rastafarian in every scene he's in...

Either Scorcese or Spielberg, but if I had to choose, I'd go with Scorcese.

Al Pacino is my absoulute favorite actor and I support him on everything he does (even Gigli ) but i don't think he'll direct, or even if he can direct. Have you seen Looking for Richard? He can do the job!
You wanna waste my time? Ok. I call my lawyer.. he's the best lawyer in Miami.. he's such a good lawyer that by tomorrow morning you gonna be workin' in Alaska.. so dress warm!

reading this post i kept expecting someone to mention either the Coen brothers or steven soderbergh.
although scorsese is great, and he'd probably be my first choice if not for FFC, i think the Coen brothers did a great job with "Miller's Crossing" (irish mob movie, highly recommend it), and as far as Soderbergh goes, although crime films may not be his type of thing, i feel like he could create a very deep, complex picture of the psyche of the Michael and the corleone family, i.e the whole downfall and tragedy concept.

FFC all the way. SCORCESE should help with the script and direction Or Tarantino, because hes such a great mimic. But yeah FFC could bring them all together.
hey the other day I saw Decaprio LEO at a Borders across from the Bev Center LA...he was browsing...he looked conspicous hiding but still in front of him I asked for and purchased the GODFATHER book by our man Mario P. i said outloud, please the Originial not the New one. I wish hed play Sonny, hes tall like Caan. Anyways, why not have ED NORTON play Young Vito, or Deniro play Vito in the Thirties, and people STOP DISSING PART THREE it was GENIUS...remember, It sets up the next one for greatness, definately ANdy G as Vincent C.
Please oh pretty please with sugar on top FFC!!! But sofia probably would not touch another GF movie because you dorks dissed her (well the haters did)i thought she was great, especially when she meets vinnie (ill give you a hint my father is Italian) the lil ho!
Ill make him an offer he wont refuse...

I can not believe that this is even being discussed. Some people are heartbroken enough that a movie will never be made with Puzo working on it. But to even think of a 4th Godfather without Coppola?!?!?! Without Coppola, I would be very disappointed. However, if a 4th movie was made without FFC ( ) then the only director I woud feel semi-happy about is Sophia Coppola. But with mention of Tarrentino and Schorcese-it just would never work. I mean, they are both very good directors, and I love their work but The Godfather is a different kind of movie-it was popular because of the classic touch Coppola gave to it. If someone like Tarrentino of Schorcese did it, it just wouldn't be the same Godfather we all know and love.
"I never wanted this for you. I work my whole life--I don't apologize--to take care of my family, and I refused to be a fool, dancing on the string held by all those bigshots. I don't apologize--that's my life--but I thought that, that when it was your time, that you would be the one to hold the string. Senator Corleone; Governor Corleone." -Don Vito Corleone to his son, Michael

I dont feel that Coppola has to be out if GF4 is made... the thing with GF3 is he wanted to complete Michael. Now that that is pretty much done. He can go back to his GF1 & 2 creativity and devise new plots and subplots for Vincent and Anthony.
I think it could be really good.
But... If I HAD TO choose another director... either Scorcese or maybe Oliver Stone(and I am not even a big fan of his) but he may be able to do something for it

Really- only Coppola. I really don't see him doing it though. Scorsese would be great but I think DeNiro would be the best choice really-outside of Coppola. Another choice...ME!

Never know, Coppola could change his mind someday...I do love Scorsese and Tarantino, but I'm not sure either of their styles would be appropriate for this film.
DePalma has done very similar-looking projects, and Spielberg could make ANYTHING, possibly (and there IS a lot of sentiment to GF)...MUNICH did a lot for me as far as showing a harder edge from him that I don't think I've seen before. I've been fairly impressed by some of Ron Howard's "period-ish" films too, like CINDERELLA MAN and A BEAUTIFUL MIND.
In the end, though, I don't really expect to see any GF4 project put to film, ever. Sad but true, eh?

I kind of hope that they never do. Leave the three and let it be.
