Hello,
I want to purchase The Godfather DVD Collection on region 2 PAL format (United Kingdom release) through Amazon UK. When reading the technical information I discovered that the total running time of the five discs is 521 minutes. The U.S. release lasts for abou 750 minutes.
So, I'm confused about this information. Does anybody know if the European release version consists of "just" the tree movies, without the extras?

That's weird, yeah... as far as I know, they're identical except for the region encoding. But you're right, Amazon UK says 521 mins while Amazon US says 725 mins. Both list the same extras, so the times must be screwed up. Interestingly, since I never really paid attention to the running times, the individual movies themselvs run 480 mins (172+200+108), so it's not a matter of one including the extras and the other not. Weird. I'll try to get clarification... JG

I'd just buy The Epic, as thats got all the deleted scenes in it. It includes all the extra scenes from The Trilogy for GF1 and GF2, and more but doesn't have all the extra subtitles. Theres really no point in buying the Trilogy, as all it does is combine all three films, and ruins the ending of Godfather 2. I know its got GF3 in it, but thats just the same as the directors cut version, which is exactly the same as the normal version, so theres no need to buy the Trilogy except for its collective value, extra subtitles and book. But if its extra scenes your after, buy The Epic...

That may be true for the European version, but not at all for the American version. The Trilogy has the most footage of all released video versions here, period. Only the televised version has more. However, I was shown proof that there exists an Epic 1901-1959 in Europe -- so maybe your Epic is our Trilogy minus GF3. Check and compare the Epic and Trilogy sections of the site - they list all the extra footage that I found in each. I'd love to find out how the European versions differ... PS But we're talking DVD here, far superior quality than VHS, so the DVD Collection is best JG [ September 01, 2001: Message edited by: J Geoff ]

noledge Perhaps you're right, but there is a slight problem: The Epic is not avaibale in stores anymore, so one would have to try and obtaine a used copy. That's not an option for me. Also, I wad specifically talking about the DVD version, and it doesn't look like Paramount is going to release a DVD version of The Epic after they release a DVD version of the trilogy in October. Greetings, Charles Z.
