In general, let's not lose sight that these people are basically good at one thing - baseball. Just because they are in the media spotlight doesn't mean they are good businessmen, politicians, humanitarians, rational, logical or even smart. There is a good share of illiterates, racists, egotists, and social deviates. Put them in a highly-charged situations and nothing should surprise us. Wow, what great entertainment. The game was pretty good too.

I got a good laugh this morning when someone on the radio commented that during yesterday's apology, Zimmer 'pulled a Johnny Fontaine' when he began crying like a baby!!

PS - JGeoff is correct, Pedro grabbed Zimmer's head and pushed - no actually 'flung' is a more appropriate word - him to the ground!

PSS - MaryCas, Tuesday's game will be played in Boston; the 'make-up' of the one that was rained out last night. So NY fans will have a chance to show their class (or lack thereof) in Game 6, if necessary.

Great game last night! Now that is baseball worth watching.

Did anyone see that pre-show when they showed Zimmer during the big event. New film and a pulled back angle shows the benches emptying and Zimmer coming all the way across the field and around the massive group in the middle of the field to the other side where Pedro is standing just outside the dugout not getting involved. Pedro is not playing the field as the Boston team is batting. Zimmer charges Pedro and Pedro redirects Zimmer to the ground like a bull fighter with a bull.

Pedro takes the big hit for the night $50,000. Dollars worth! But then again some Yankees may be feeling some pain if Boston PD throw some charges their way from the bullpen event. All in all it seems like the day off for the rain helps to keep things peaceful.

Two good games for Tuesday. Grab some food and lets play ball!

No way. Considering how much they all make, the $50 with Pedro, the $25 for Ramirez, and $10 for Garcia and the $5 for Zim is nothing. It's friggin' peanuts for them. :p

Anyway, tonights game broke my heart. And in mourning a wrote a little poem that i'd like to share. Now i don't mean any harm to his poor unfortunate fan...i'm simply venting. Boy, those Cubs should have had this series in the bag long ago, blowing another lead by allowing 8 runs in the eigth inning. The fan that interfered with Alou's catch will be banned from Chicago if the Cubs end up losing the series to the Marlins. It's all going down on Game 7, and I can't wait!

As far as the New York/Boston series goes, I feel that the Red Sox blew yet another prime opportunity to make it to the series. I'm not saying that I've given up on them, but they had a chance to have a good lead going back to New York. The rain delay really helped both clubs to cool off and reflect. This rivalry has been hot for about 2000 games! Security will probably remain high, but it shouldn't have to come to that in the first place. Anyway, the playoffs are still THE SHOW to watch these days.

I've always been a Yankees fan, but if the World Series boils down to the Cubs vs. the Yanks, I'll pull for the Cubs simply because they're so long overdue. But if they don't make it, that fan better go into the Witness Protection program, 'cause I bet a lot of Cubs fans are gunning for him!

It always amazes me in sport how so much emphasis is placed on one event or play. The fan incident at Chicago is a perfect example. The Cubs were ahead 3-0. They lost 8-3 because of that fan?? No. Their pitching broke down. There was no guarantee the Alou would have caught the ball and the Fish would not score. The cause and effect of that incident is totally unpredictable. But human nature is what it is, and the media is what it is. Poor guy. Let's put it in perspective. Three Americans died in a bomb blast in the Gaza today -- which event gets more press and attention in Chicago?

I agree with you on the perspective issue, MaryCas. And you have a valid point on what constitutes a "pivotal point" in any given game. However, for better or worse, you gotta' remember some folks watch ball games to escape the harsh realities of life. I personally think it's a downright shame how much these players make, how much emphasis is given to sports in general, etc. On the other hand, I can relate to the outrage of Cubbies everywhere, albeit I think there should be a little maturity and restraint shown. But crap, I recall how I felt just last Saturday night when the Tennessee Vols gave the game to the Georgia Bulldogs in college football!!

Face it. Post-season baseball gets ALOT of attention. Always has and always will. It's one of the most exciting times of year, especially when it's your city's teams that are involved!!

Anyway...I've always had a serious problem with fan interference and hope this jerk feels really guilty for turning the tide in what he probably thought was going to be a Cubs win. That aside, while the incident in itself may not have cause the 8-3 loss, it probably had a severe psychological effect on both teams. If you're the Cubs who were practically tasting the World Series, it literally pulled out the rug from underneath your feet. If you're the Marlins, who are described as a team that knows how to take advantage of a break and run with it...then you're going to gain momentum and come back from behind because you have to and there's no tomorrow if you don't.

Same thing happened in 1986. The Sox were ONE strike away from taking it all. Mets got a break and something happened. It was simply amazing to watch. Even before the warranted Game 7 was played...the Sox had lost the World Series. They were spooked. Shellshocked.

That's what happened because of that fan last night. He 'spooked' the Cubs.

It can't believe that the players continue playing with "severe psychological effect". As the hits and runs mount up, yes, demoralizing for the Cubs and inspiring for the Marlins. But I can't believe the players dwell on one questionable play.

You misunderstand the term 'spooked'. The media and replay analysis plays no role here, as the players had no access to any of that...they had to go on with the game, as you say. And while maybe they consciously certainly did NOT dwell on that one play...it in itself was demoralizing and had an effect on the remainder of the game.

Of course - if you just don't believe in that sort of thing...

I think, too, everybody should take into account how the Cubs (and plenty of other teams) have actually gained advantage because of fan interference. It really all balances out (same can be said of penalties in football). But, as Apple noted, since this one's a playoff game...

Of course, one has to wonder if a big enough deal is made out of this incident (and also concerning the fan who jumped into the Yankee dugout the other night), whether the Commission might ponder putting up plexiglass or something so it can't happen again. Wonder how baseball fans would feel about that?

What are you talking about, man? The game was great....for Boston fans. It's amazing how home field advantage hasn't proved to be much of a deciding factor in this particular series. You could see a bunch of New Yorkers leaving Yankee Stadium after Trot Nixon just blasted the ball into South America in the ninth inning. That two-run shot just completely took the LIFE out of the crowd.

What's even more amazing is that Game 7 will feature Pedro vs. Roger with the World Series at stake. This game promises to be a great one, and since I seem to be one of the only members here going for the Red Sox, I will take the heat from you guys either if they win or lose. I live for this!
