just finished wathcing the gf1 dvd after buying it on release date and only getting a dvd player yesterday. at 2hr28min at don vitos funeral when micheal stands up, on the right and side of the screen there is a picture of a ladys face but she is not actually in the movie, its been superimposed or something went wrong. the face is vary faint and only viewable against dark backgrounds, if you pause as micheal gets up you can see half of her face clearly. he face is present for the next minute and a half, but vary faintly.
Does someone have and explanation to this?

The image was noticed on videotapes, also. (Its not just the DVD copy). I haven't heard of any reasonable explanation of why the image is there.

Okay after searching for close on 3 hours now i still havent managed to find anything about this mysterious lady, but I have a theory. Just maybe its the real wife of Don Vito come to pay us a visit. Now the search is on to find a pic of the family the godfather is based on. Or maybe, just maybe, we have found something you cannot find on the internet...

I think it may have been a double image

it's kinda like that "ghost" that was in Three Men and a Baby.
