OMG! Right off of Yahoo!: Packers' wide receiver Donald Driver said Tuesday that doesn't believe quarterback Brett Favre will return next season. "I don't think so," Driver told Sirius NFL Radio when asked if Favre will return for a 15th season. "Everyone has been asking me that question. He's a real close friend of mine and we've been talking back and forth, and I think he's pretty much going to hang 'em up." Packers' head coach Mike Sherman asked Favre last month to make a retirement decision before the free agency period begins in March. We can't even imagine the Packers without No. 4 taking the snaps. The fantasy impact would be astounding, as the team does not have another signal caller waiting in the wings. It's worth noting that this story broke on the same day rumors surfaced that Emmitt Smith will retire and join a investment group that is trying to purchase the Vikings. Is it possible that Favre might also be an investor? Okay, there is absolutely no evidence to support that theory. If nothing else, we hope that our imaginary scenario helps Packer fans realize that things could be worse even if Favre retires.

While I am not really surprised, I was kinda taken back like the Emmitt Smith retirement announcement earlier. Really, I figured Favre would have 1 or 2 more seasons left in him. Still, for many decades to come, we will marvel and tell the older new generation, and many more to come, about the tough son of a b*tch Quarterback who went from being a so-so rated prospect from Mississippi St. who was taken in the 2nd Round Draft Pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 1991, then traded the next year to the Green Bay Packers for a 1st Round Draft Pick who 13 years and 205 consecutive starts later becomes the only 3-time NFL MVP(sharing his third MVP award with Hall of Fame running back legend Barry Sanders) in history, an 8-time Pro Bowler, and leading his legendary Green Bay Packers to two consecutive trips to the Super Bowl(with a victory over the New England Patriots in XXXI). Not to mention that he was in the Top 5 this past season for Touchdown Passes and Passing Yards, and his f*cking amazing career stats compare to the Top 50 all-time heights: Pass attempts: #3 Completions: #2 Passing yards: #3 Passing TDs: #2 WOW He'll join fellow retiree Emmitt Smith in Canton in the Class of 2010....and WHO will the Packers get to replace #4?

Patrick, you and I think so much alike when it comes to Packers football. Although I believe Donald Driver to be an honest individual and close friend to Favre, I wouldn't close the case here. Sure, the news of this coming out does not surprise me a bit. I respect Favre's decision no matter where he decides to go from here whether it be to return for another season or retire and support his family full-time.
If he does return, I have every confidence in his playing ability. It's not like he's coming off a bad season (4,088 yds, 30 TDs, 92.4 passer rating). But it's ultimately up to him. He's had some rough times in the last couple of years, and I can only wonder how much longer he can take the physical and emotional stress. We should know very soon if Driver's prediction is in fact true.

The Lions have done a lot, not just this offseason but since the Mooch took over. From 5-11 to 6-10 and now I think they're gonna push for 8 or 9 wins which could grant them a wildcard in the NFC. I've said it for a while now but I think Harrington could be "05's Drew Brees with Rogers back, R. Williams a little more experienced and now an experienced receiving TE threat in Pollard. The depth is pretty good at WR too. They'll also have a good running game if Kevin Jones played like he played in the second half of the season. Harrington now has the added incentive of playing well because of Jeff Garcia now behind him who was probowler under Mariucci for the 49ers.
The Vikings will still be good, but may choke again when the time comes like they usually do. We'll have to see what damage, if any, the Tice scandal brings. But for now they've made some key acquisitions. Resigning TE Wiggins who was awesome when Moss was out, and starting to sort out their defence with Fred Smoot, your man Sharper and getting a decent DT in Williams. Ok no Moss to stretch the field but they've got two first round picks to address that.
All I've heard so far about the Packers are cuts, a GM change and Favre staying. They have serious holes to worry about.
