Any team he can win with.

I woke up this morning with nothing to do and went to bed with only half of it done.

I can't really see him coming back to either team because he wants to win now and neither team is really in that position. However, he'd probably go to the Lakers over the Knicks

I honestly think he is going to the Lakers. He probably wanted to take a year off from the turmoil, and now that he sees what happened, he wants to be the savior of L.A.

Hey, how's it going?

He can win with Kobe, but he can't win with only Kobe. They need more talent to be able to compete with the Spurs, Suns, etc

I think he'll go back to the Lakers. But I think the bigger question is: Why will Phil Jackson go?? The man already has 9 championships and a load of money. He does not need to go back unless coaching in the NBA really has a grip on him. The fact that he's still seeing Jerry Buss' daughter tells me that he will likely go to LA rather than NY. Both teams are projects, but the Lakers are actually better off as far as contracts go.

This could get interesting real soon.

I think he's going to either the Cavs or Timberwolves to coach either of the high school superstars.

Pros for T-Wolves: KG and a team that was 1 year removed from the Conf Finals
Cons to T-Wolves: losses of Wally World & Spreewell

Pros for Cavs: LeBron
Cons for Cavs: no one else beside LeBron and a new, meddlesome owner

No way is he touching the catastrophe that is the Knicks organization. And I'd be surprised to see him go back to LA since Kobe forced ownership to get rid of all talent around Kobe.

I want him back in L.A.

I know Shaq's absence was a BIG part of why the Lakers sucked this season, but I also think Phil had something to do with it. A good coach is like a good director in a movie. You can have a bunch of good actors or players, but without the right person bringing it all together, it doesn't really work. I only went to about six home games this year.... that's how DULL they were. Usually I'd go a lot more often. Here's hoping for a good next season.

I absolutely agree. Some people criticize Phil because he earned all of his championships with "loaded" teams like the Bulls of the 90s and of course, the Lakers. I don't think he got enough credit for what he did as far as keeping the team together. It's amazing that Kobe and Shaq were able to play together for as long as they did, and I thank Phil for keeping that nucleus in place.

If he comes back to LA next year, I will not expect a championship right away, but I think the Lakers will definitely be a better team than they were this year,

Caporegime - couldn't agree more.

People tend to forget that pre-Phil Jackson in LA, the Lakers had Kobe & Shaq for 3 or 4 years and didn't win squat. They floundered in the playoffs. That tells me what kind of coach Jackson is. Plus he had great role players in LA (as he did in Chi) like Robert Horry, Glenn Rice & Derek Fischer.

LA belongs to Kobe. It doesnt matter who coaches, because if they dont let Kobe do his thing they arent going to stick around for long. It doesnt matter who they get to play along side him anymore, because he will phase them out. Odom was becoming one of my favorite players last season. So much for that shit.

What?

Fat lot of good Kobe did the team this season. This season proved 100% that it's not about Kobe; it's about the team and the coach. I don't know which Lakers you were watching to come to your conclusion, but the ones in L.A. sucked this season. They had the worst record they've had in 11 years. Three years ago, they were 58-24. This year they were 34-48, I think. It sounds to me like we're well on our way to "not sticking around" already without Shaq and Jackson.

They're supposed to have a news conference announcing Phil is going back to The Lakers. I guess boinking the boss's daughter does have it's consequences......or luxuries depending on how you see it.

I can't wait until The Kobe/Phil show next season .

Bethie, one can never see the word "boink" enough, can one??

Phil Jackson with the Lakers?? Huh?? Did I miss something? Did Kobe suddenly get coachable all of the sudden (that's after Phil labeled him uncoachable in his last book)?

Boink...boink...boink. Yeah, I love the way it just rolls of my tongue.

Did you see the press conference? Phil stated that in his book...........can you say "plug"....that after about February or March of last year Kobe and he had better communication, and became easier to be around.

He more or less said that is girlfriend was "supportive" of his decision. I guess he didn't want to be a wuss and say she wears the pants in the family and more or less told him to go back. At least that's the feeling I got.

The rumor mill is churning out that Ole Phil signed a 3-year contract for $30 million, or basically 10 million smackers a year...which I believe makes him the highest paid coach in the NBA.

And he deserves every penny.

I, for one, am very excited. I hope all goes well and the Lakers get back up to #1, where they belong. Either way, it's going to be an interesting season.

This past season, I went to a few games, and the place was always like 2/3 full. As opposed to other seasons, when tickets would be sold out to every game. I think they lost a lot of money because people lost interest. I hope it all gets back to normal again.

Guaranteed financial security even on top of what he has and she looks pretty damn good to boot....she can wear the pants (well not always of course)

Hes going to change anything and everything EXCEPT Kobe to make the Lakers win.
I dont think they will win until Kobe changes his game, which I dont see happening. Phil isnt going to improve this team a whole lot, because the game is going to be played Kobes way.
That was what I meant

Not to mention that Phil Jackson doesn't have a 7 year $100+ million contract that the ownership would have to deal with.

exactly. That contract, along with the removals of Shaq and Phil, ensured that Laker ball with be played Kobes way.

Overall, I think that this team can improve, but I dont think it is in a paitent enough city, and I dont think Phil and Kobe are going to be paitent while they take time to improve.

Shaq drives every team that he is on. Kobe found out it wasnt so easy facing double teams for entire games the way Iverson or McGrady or Allen do, or the way Jordan did. Kobe fans found out he wasnt going to put up 33 ppg now that the Deisel wasnt around and he was the #1 option.

Suprise, suprise, now the NEW guard on Shaqs team is becoming Penny/Kobe/"next"Jordan popular.
