Here is a quick question: What announcer or anchorperson or analyst that works on any of ESPN's empire of cable channels annoy you the most?
It used to be Max Kellerman, who was a decent boxing commentator, but outside the ring he was real...what is the word? Oh yes...dorkish.
Now who do I hate the most? Skip Baylor. I mean other silly crap hes said over the years, he had the gull to say that Rafael Palmeiro isn't worthy of the Baseball Hall of Fame, even if he is in the 500 Homerun club and is about to join the 3,000 hit club as well. (NOTE: Now don't start with how he was accused of taking steroids. Sure we can debate all we want, but what is the evidence? Besides Canseco's word, the rest as well is circumstantial speculation. Sorry, but unless I get a smoking gun like ole Pete Rose and his little betting problem that MLB documented, Palmeiro is "clean". Then again, he did perform better, being truthful or lying or whatever, at the Congressional Hearings than McGwire and Sosa).
Offtrack, but what ESPN people do you hate, if any?

that's easy stu scott. i think everyone realizes he's from north carolina, we're only told every five seconds on sportscenter. the funniest espn moment was during the first season of dream job, one of the contestants who was from syracuse was doing a nuggest highlight and pointed out that's where melo was from, and he yelled the whole time. after he was done, al jaffe, the head of the hiring dept, admonished him for being too loud and bringing up his alma mater, because everyone knows carmelo anthony went to 'cuse. then, the camera cut to stu scott, the host of the show, who looked like someone had just punched his mother. you can't script something that priceless.

Yes, Skip Bayless. Thanks for the correction! Now my favorite ESPN personalities.........well obviously there is Chris Berman, who has always been cool in my little black book, then Woody Paige(eccentric yes, but he usually makes logical sense. Save for a few occasions like when he predicted his Denver Broncos to go undefeated...and ended up 9-7 ), followed by Jay Marriotti(who actually can be as arrogant as Bayless some times(but not as much as Bayless), plus a brownnose for anything Michael Jordan, but hes entertaining and hell, hes really a good adversary for Paige), J.A. Adande(really, the way his name is pronounced on AROUND THE HORN is a catchphrase of humor at my dorm), and Peter Gammons, who I absolutely respect as a baseball analyst who doesn't project himself as a wise guy, hes just wise.

Skip Bayless once wrote for the Chicago Tribune while Jay Mariotti still writes for the Sun Times. I always liked Bayless as a columnist. I was never fond of Mariotti.
By the way, Bayless has a brother, Rick Bayless, who owns Frontera Grill, an excellent Mexican restaurant in Chicago. Perhaps one of the best margaritas (won't you get drunk and dance with me?) you'll ever drink.
Anybody remember Sal Marchiano from ESPN's early days? He was a pretty good sportscaster from New York I think, and he had a hard time adjusting to ESPN's limited budget in the beginning. I was watching a late-night SportsCenter when he said something like, "The best way to see Bristol is through your rear view mirror." He was gone almost immediately after that.
In the early days it was hard to beat a SportsCenter featuring Chris Berman and Tom Mees co-anchoring. It was rare to see them working together, but that was the "A-Team" and they were absolutely spectacular together.
ESPN's wall-to-wall coverage of the first round of the NCAA Tournament was part of the reason the tournament has become the billion dollar behemoth that it is.

Don't start all this again please. Most of ESPN guys are cool but there are exceptions. Mel Kiper - he's always right. Well in his own head. He'll never admit being wrong. Also that guy who filled in for Jim Rome last week on Rome is Burning does my nut in. Steven A Smith? What a nob. Favourites: Boomer, Mariotti, Reali, Michael Smith, and Paige is just an idiot in a good way.

I would have to agree, Irishman. Salisbury is the most arrogant, opinionated, and obnoxious a-hole on that channel. What gets me is that I remember what a lousy player he was - where he gets off cracking on any player is beyond me. I can't stand it when he & John Clayton get into it. Not that I'm a huge fan of Clayton. I remember one time Sean was ripping on how stupid a player looked and Clayton came back with video of Sean with a ridiculous mohawk and striped haircut ala Brian Bosworth.
Other honorable mention idiots: Stu Scott, Stephen A. Smith, Joe Morgan, and Joe Thiesmann.
