I don't know how many Blue Jay fans are on the bb but I thought that with opening day nearly a week away it would be appropriate for me to create a thread for what has to be my favourite team in all of sports.
The Blue Jays Active Roster looks like this as of now:
Pitchers
A.J. Burnett Gustavo Chacin Vinnie Chulk Scott Downs Jason Frasor Roy Halladay Ted Lilly B.J. Ryan Scott Schoenweis Justin Speier Josh Towers Pete Walker
Catchers
Bengie Molina Guillermo Quiroz Gregg Zaun
IF
Russ Adams Troy Glaus Aaron Hill Shea Hillenbrand Eric Hinske John McDonald Lyle Overbay
OF
Frank Catalanotto Reed Johnson Alex Rios Vernon Wells
Of these 26 guys those who we will rely on to make it to the postseason are: Burnett, Chacin, Halladay, Lilly, Ryan, Molina, Adams, Glaus, Hill, Hillenbrand, Overbay, Catalanotto, Johnson, Rios and Wells. This means that of the 26, 15 are the guys who are absolutely integral to our success. I really believe that barring injuries and bad umpiring or just bad breaks we have the team to make it to the playoffs and maybe even the A.L.C.S. Will we win The A.L. Pennant? My heart says that we could and should, but my brain says that it will be either The Yankees, Red Sox, White Sox or Indians.

I give them props, they spent money, got some free agents and I think it'll pay off for them this year. I personally still don't feel they'll make the playoffs, but it's DEFINITELY a step in the right direction.

Yeah for sure, you know I support a free market system in Baseball and other sports with no cap. Let it go out of control I say, Adam Smith's invisible hand will take care of those who cannot compete. If this means that The Montreal Expos move to Washington D.C. when Washington could have easily birthed and supported a new expansion team from the ground up, I have to deal with it. It is what it is you know? I was sad when The Expos went South but I always felt that Washington should have a team. I can't for the life of me however, comprehend why a team like The Florida Marlins is not supported by those in the city of Miami and/or the state of Florida. This team has won two World Series titles in the span of what, less than 15 years right? Why don't people go watch their fucking games or at least watch them on the tube?! They've had quality teams in the past but they always seem to have a firesale and build from the ground up. An organization cannot survive this way. A good example of this is Carlos Delgado who I believe is the best first baseman in the N.L. after Albert Pujols. He played with The Marlins for one year did well, they didn't make the playoffs and they just let him go to The Mets who by the way should contend this year. Whatever, you gotta take the good with the bad. It would be hypocritical to say that I support the system but I can't accept what it creates. As for The Blue Jays and The Yankees. Well, I've got tickets for the games on Apr. 19, and Sept. 20 and I can't freakin wait! Also have tickets for the series against The Mets during interleague play and games against The White Sox, Red Sox and Mariners as part of the 10 game flex pack I bought a few weeks ago. Why isn't it April already?! ![](/threads/images/graemlins/classic/lol.gif)

they certainly have a great team, but if the Yankees or the Red Sox had this exact same roster, playing the exact same division, it would be considered a weak team. I guess we're not used to see another contender in the AL East and any team who put together a respectable roster might be overrated. I mean, AJ Burnett has the stuff to be one of the best pitchers out there (he even had some 6 innings 12 K's games last season!), but he definitely isn't anywhere near it yet. Halladay IS one of the best pitchers out there, but he's always injured. BJ Ryan has only one full season as a closer under his belt. of course, what a season it was! but pitchers get ups and downs every year (that's why Yankee fans shouldn't have illusions with Chacon, Wang and Small). Bengie Molina is one of the best catchers in the majors, but, again, he is also one of the most injury prone. the Blue Jays only don't need to worry about power. they have lots of it with Overbay, Glaus, Wells, Hillenbrand and on and on. I believe they'll be 2nd in their division, with the friggin' Yankees at first after scoring 3500 runs and allowing 2500. if Schilling and Beckett get healthy and play everything they can, the Blue Jays might drop to 3rd, which would mean no post season.

The Yanks have waited a whole what, 5 or so years since their last World Series...My God! I don't know how people in New York State/New Jersey/Connecticut get up in the morning and go to work. It would just be too damn painful for me, you know. ![](/threads/images/graemlins/classic/wink.gif) :p ![](/threads/images/graemlins/classic/lol.gif) Seriously though, I think Blue Jay fans know that we're pretty much playing against Boston and to a much lesser extent Tampa Bay and Baltimore because it's pretty much a fait accompli that the Yanks will wrap up the division.

Thanks Mr. Rosenthal, Thanks a lot! Now that the jinx is in place, we can look forward to a Brave/Yankee W.S.
Seriously though, I wish expectations weren't this high. I mean, don't get me wrong, in every sport, every team should be expected to win. But this is getting out of freakin hand here. I do believe that we have a good enough team to win the A.L. Wild Card and maybe even the A.L. Pennant (granted that is a pretty big maybe). But to just say before game 1 is played that The Blue Jays will win the W.S. is kinda sketchy. I know Mr. Rosenthal was being kinda tongue in cheek with this online column but the man does know Baseball and his words carry weight, no matter what he says and how he says it. It's not irresponsible (he can say whatever the hell he wants) but it's just kindy sketchy is all I'm sayin.

Irish, I think you're living proof of the saying of Yankee fans you know the one that goes you guys root for two teams. The Yankees, and whoever's playing The Redsox. ![](/threads/images/graemlins/classic/wink.gif) :p Yeah, good win for us tonight to even up our record at 4 - 4. This shows that we can beat a quality team like The BoSox and that The A.L. cannot take us lightly. Reed Johnson continues to be a Red Sox killer as he went 2/3 with 2 Runs and 2 Walks. Alex Rios, Bengie Molina and Vernon Wells all hit Home Runs and are firing on all cylinders in the early going of this campaign. The whole team showed what it takes to win ball games, the offence produced, Gustavo Chacin had a solid outing and got his second Win of the season, and the bullpen was stellar (B.J. Ryan's E.R.A. is stil 0.00)! Hopefully Ted Lilly can give a decent effort tomorrow night as we face Matt Clement in the rubber match.

Whatta game tonight?! Vernon Wells went 2/5 with a 2R HR and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Troy Glaus went 2/4 with a 2R HR, 3 R, and 1 BB. Lyle Overbay went 4/5 with a solo shot and he added another RBI. Shea Hillenbrand hit a 2R HR as well, went 3/5 and was a triple away from the cycle. Gregg Zaun also had a brilliant night, he went 3/5 with 3 doubles, 1 R and 1 RBI. The only Blue Jay not to get a basehit was Aaron Hill, but he did have an RBI.
Scott Downs gave a douchebag performance and it looked like it was gonna be a loss. But our bullpen hung in there (Walker, Chulk and Brian "Wolverine" Tallet pitched really well) and our offence went absolutely ballistic.
Tomorrow afternoon's game should be a gem, with A.J. Burnett facing Mark Buehrle. A win tomorrow will assure us a win in the series against The White Sox.

i'd like to say that the blue jays will definatly get the wild card. they aren't even playing to their full potential. and with all the recent injuries. i see them starting to pull ahead of alot of these teams over the next month. what do you think don jasani?

Alex Rios* - 2 R, 2 H, 4 RBI, with a double and a Home Run.
Vernon Wells* - went 0for but a walk.
Troy Glaus* - 3 R, 3 H, 3 RBI, with a double and 2 HR!
Bengie Molina* - 1 R, 1 H,
Aaron "even I have a pretty decent game once in a while" Hill - 2 R, 1 H.
John "The F. is for Freakin" McDonald - 2/3, RBI, SF
I'd say the team and the squad had and the family had a pretty good night yesterday night I mean!
