Goombah inspired me with his MVP thread so I thought I'd start one on the R.O.Y. race. Every one here knows who I'm rooting for although Paul will most probably win.

April 12

Charlie Villanueva

19 Points, 1 Block, 1 Steal, 2 Assists, 6 Rebounds

Chris Paul

21 Points, 2 Steals, 6 Assists, 3 Rebounds

Chris Paul hands down!!

every season, rookies are coming better faster. 5 years ago, you'd be satisfied with a 15-5-3 line out of your first pick overall, and now the guys are putting triple-double numbers. anyone has a theory to explain it?

I think it's fair to say that "most probably" qualifies as a massive understatement.

Anyone who doesn't have him named first on their ballot obviously hasn't been paying attention this season.

(No, Don Jasani, you may not have a vote.)

Quite frankly, I expect Paul to be a unanimous winner, and I don't even think that Villanueva will finish second, so to indicate by the title of this thread that the race is between those two is not quite correct.

I think that Raymond Felton will be second, and considering that this year's rookie crop was considerably above average (Paul, Felton, Villanueva, Marvin Williams, Deron Williams, Bogut, Frye, Granger, McCants, etc., not to mention guys who got a late start with playing time, or had their season cut short by injuries, like Claderon, Diogu, Ewing, Graham, Gomes, Head, Jasikevicious, Singleton, Stoudamire)), Villanueva will do well to finish third.

Their stats:

Charlie V.: 12.8 PPG, .79 BPG, .74 SPG, 1.1 APG 6.4 RPG
1 024 Points, 63 Block Shots, 59 Steals, 85 Assists, 511 Rebounds.

high game: 48 Points

Chris P.: 16.2 PPG, .08 BPG, 2.25 SPG, 7.8 APG, 5.2 RPG
1 251 Points, 6 Block Shots, 173 Steals, 604 Assists, 398 Rebounds.

high game: 28 Points

+/- averages: Points -> Paul + 3.4 Block Shots -> Villanueva + 0.71 Steals -> Paul + 1.51 Assists Paul + 6.7 Rebounds -> Villanueva + 1.2

+/- totals: Points -> Paul + 227 Block Shots -> Villanueva + 57 Steals -> Paul + 114 Assists -> Paul + 519 Rebounds -> Villanueva + 113

high game -> Villanueva + 20

Going by these numbers Paul did have the better year but not by too too much. Felton doesn't figure for me cuz I'm soo sure that it's a two horse race. Paul will come out on top but I think that Villanueva should take it.

Yeah, C.P. will win it and all, but that's cuz nearly every NBA fan, every big media outlet in North America and the World and pretty much every one short of Mr. David Stern himself has already given it to him. The award and presentation is just a formality it looks like. Charlie V. had a better season in my opinion, is a better, stronger player, and will have a better career.

There's a poll on http://www.NBA.com for R.O.Y. I voted for CHARLIE VILLANUEVA! :p :rolleyes:

who has...a pitiful 6% of the vote!

Andrew "Good for what exactly?!" Bogut is 2nd with 7% of the vote!

and guess who's first?! Just guess?! well...my friends...it's CHRIS PAUL! with 79% of the vote...

of the 18 290 votes so far...

God Almighty! I didn't know that only 2.4 million people live in Canada... :p

I insist.

remember that Dwyane Wade hit the game-winning-buzzer-beater shot in his first playoff game and LeBron Jamesposted a triple double in the first of his own.

Hornets\' Paul to be named NBA\'s rookie of the year

New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul, who led all first-year players in points, assists, steals and other categories, will be named the NBA's Rookie of the Year...

Congrats, and thanks for the fantasy points!

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

To the tune of "Thanks For The Memories"

Thanks
for the fantasies
Rebounds and assists
You hardly ever missed
If we'd only made the playoffs, though
I wouldn't be so pissed
But you beat
Charles V.

How did my top five go? Paul, Felton, Bogut, Villanueva, Deron Williams, I think?
