Hello all. I like the site! I'm doing some research and can't come up with a definitive answer to who from Paramount actually made the deal with Mario Puzo--I've read Robert Evans, Peter Bart, and Marvin Birdt. Anybody know the real story here? Thanks for any input.

You might have already read the Robert Evans book "The Kid Stays in The Picture." If not, it might give you Evans' one-sided view of how the deal came together.
I read it when it was first released, over ten years ago, and I don't recall if or how much he devotes to the novel going from printed page to option to deal-making to "green light" production.

And be sure to get the updated Second Edition of this book. If you search the Internet, you will probably find some bargains. Here are a couple of good links to try: http://www.bookfinder4u.com/ http://www.addall.com/Welcome to the Boards! Signor V.

"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies?"
"It was a grass harp... And we listened."
"Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? Every, every minute?"
"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."
