Umm, I'm mixed.
For one thing, I enjoyed OCEAN'S 11. Nothing remarkable or special, but entertaining in a solid manner that didn't piss me off in anyway.
But OCEAN'S 12 was a piece of hubris shit. Too many characters kept from the first movie that audiences don't care about, and are appropriately wasted. Stretching of the story to accomidate these returning people, the narrative is wrecked beyond whatever possibility of success that might have happened.
Never mind that amazingly silly "twist" that I still can't believe that Soderbergh allowed. Not just superbly and psychoticly silly, but its insulting to me. Besides, it makes no sense.
Now OCEAN'S 13....well, dumping Zeta-Jones and Roberts's characters is wise. No one cares about them. The basic idea of Garcia joining up Clooney is a decent plan for a sequel. Besides, this can't disapoint me as much, no matter how, as GODFATHER PART 3, 3rd movie in franchise series-wise.
Thing is, I would have done the sequels being the squad made up of Clooney, Pitt, Damon, and Cheadle, and each subsequent sequel being that they assemble new robbers, mostly give obscure but cool actors a chance to shine. I don't know, Will Patten, Bruce Campbell, Crispin Glover, you name it.
BTW, when did Al Pacino tan that F*CKING bad? Did he fall asleep in a tanning salon or something?
RRA'S Scores:
OCEAN'S 11 (2001) - *** OCEAN'S 12 (2004) - **
