Definitely DVD. I too love widescreen, and the bonus disc rocks!!!

With all respect to Mr Soprano, why would anyone chose the VHS over the DVD?! I'm waiting for the Paramount cash-in - A new Lord of the Rings style super extended boxed set containing the Trilogy with all the extra scenes inserted into the films (including the scene of Bonaserra complaining to his wife); plus a longer bonus disc of extras featuring new interviews (including a long overdue interview with Don Geoff); wait there's more; plus Vito and Michael bookends; colour photos of Coppola and the principal cast; and finally, A copy of the book with its original style cover. Oh dear, I just drooled on my keyboard...

The first time I bought The Godfather was the "epic" box set on VHS, which combined the first two movies and arranged the footage chronologically and was very disappointed at the picture quality. I spent $100 at the time (early 90s) and was not happy.
The irony is that I spent $30 less for the DVD box set, which had better sound and picture, not to mention the great bonuses on the extra disc. While it's not the chronologically arranged "epic," it's a much more fulfilling experience for this viewer.
Hopefully they'll get around to releasing the chronological trilogy sometime...

only benefits with DVD: bonus disc, picture quality, and sound BUT IF YOU WANT THE ORIGINAL, the vhs is the way to go. VHS tapes can be viewed over and over as some DVD's can only be played a certain amount of times. VHS's also are more valuable and worth more money.
