I don't own a gun. My roommate has a shotgun so technically there is a gun in the house.

I'm on the fence with gun control. I have a pyromaniac tendency, and like fires and things that go boom, but at the same time, there are some people who I don't trust with guns, like Dick Cheney and Charlton Heston.

Oh, and the NRA is such a fucking stupid idea.

I own a gun and I know how to use it. My hubby felt with him being gone so much with the US Navy I needed protection. Thank God I never had to use it but if I had to I would do whatever I had to do to protect my kids.

He also has guns,shotguns,rifles.

I have a .22 bolt action rifle that I keep by our bed. That's it. I don't crave the feel of cold metal in my hand - some people do. On the other hand, some peole need weapons for the same reason that some peole need alot of material things - to fill the self-esteem gaps in them.

My hubby has I believe a 9mm under our mattress. The way the world is these days you need all the protection you can get.

There is a saying, "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns." That is right-wing, pro-gun rhetoric.

In a civilized society, there is no need for guns. Now we just have to get civilized.

I feel very strongly about this subject. I am definitely for stronger gun laws. How is it that this very disturbed boy, with a past record of inhabitance in a mental hospital, having been investigated twice on stalking charges, with a history of suicidal tendencies, was able to walk into a gun store and walk out with a Glock semiautomatic? No background check, just plunk down your credit card.

I understand that there are law-abiding citizens who, for whatever reason, want to own guns. Personally, I don't see a reason for it, but that is their right. What I don't understand is, why do they oppose having to WAIT for it? If you have to be investigated, fingerprinted, whatever, and it takes days or weeks, what is the big deal? What is the all-important rush to have it that very moment?

According to a CDC study, you would have to add the gun-related deaths per 100,000 people of Austria, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Gemany, Spain, Hungary, Japan, Hong Kong and Scotland together to surpass the gun-related deaths per 100,000 people in the United States in one year. Are the people of the US more violent, or could it be that the other countries have more stringent gun control??

I do not own a gun, nor have I ever felt the need to own one. In fact, when I first became a parent in 1993, I remember telling my wife that there were two things that I would insist upon while we had children in the house:no guns and no motorcycles (There was really no issue because these are two things that my wife has never given a dasmn about). I felt that the risk of an accidental tragedy outweighed any protective benefit.

What I have an issue with is how an individual with two forms of ID can walk into a store and purchase semi-automatic guns and ammunition. While law abiding citizens can advance the argument that the purpose of a hand gun is personal protection, the purpose of the semi-automatic weapon is the widespread, systematic killing of people. This is why they have been developed.

I don't even think a handgun provides the primary purpose of protection. I mean, think why any weapons are developed; it's all about war. We develop weapons that'll give us the upper-hand in battle, and then we continue to update them, making them more potent and harmful. Then, they're adopted domestically for "protection".

Weapon-induced violence is the fault of mankind's own insecurity.

I feel just as strong as SB does about guns but the opposite. We have them for protection and my husband is a hunter. We keep them under lock and key with trigger locks. Except for the one under the mattress. So what's wrong with that?

Mig, as I said, law-abiding citizens have the right to own guns if they want, but why is there an objection by some to waiting periods? What is the rush?

Obviously, you are fairly careful about keeping your guns. I worked for an architect who used to do a lot of work in the city in some questionable neighborhoods, so he carried a gun. He came home from work to shower, and left his gun on his bed. His wife walked into the bedroom and found their two year old son holding a fully loaded gun. Unfortunately, people are stupid, and that has a lot to do with why the USA leads the World Bank's richest countries in gun-related deaths.

Personally, I've never felt the need to protect myself that badly. But that's me.

We are all for waiting periods, background checks,finger printing.

When we travel Ray also has a gun with us. Gun in a box with a lock on it. He has a concealed weapon permit.

Whether you know how to use one or not, imagine the psychological implications for somebody who's never actually used one before if they happened to shoot and murder somebody.
