Tonight on my local evening news, it was reported that Luciano Pavarotti's health has seriously deteriorated over the last couple of weeks.

The great tenor, 71, has been battling pancreatic cancer.

"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies?"

"It was a grass harp... And we listened."

"Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? Every, every minute?"

"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."

While I'm not too familiar beyond the commonly heard stuff from him...the dude is a legend and has one of the most recognizeable voices ever. Sad stuff.

Hey, how's it going?

I'm so sorry to hear that. I knew he was ill but didn't know he had cancer. \:\( Not to minimize any other cancer, but I have heard that pancreatic cancer can be one of the most painful. I believe that's what Michaeal Landon died from and remember a commentator and/or doctor mentioning how much pain was involved..

I wish Pavorotti the best.

The scary thing about pancreatic is that by the time you're diagnosed, you usually have a short time, because you don't feel sick until it's too late.

How sad! Such an amazingly talented man! He really made his music accessible to an audience that had little previous exposure to it. It's sad that he's sick, but what a lovely legacy he will leave.

I think he's looked bad for years. Going back 10 years to Princess Diana's funeral he looked a little worse for wear. I hope he gets better though.

I didn't know he was sick. God speed to him and his family.

Sadly, it may now just be a matter of time.

I was watching the news tonight, and it was reported that Pavarotti was "barely hanging on" at his home. He was "slipping in and out of consciousness", and was also experiencing kidney problems in addition to the effects of the cancer. His condition was described as "grave". \:\(
