One of the greatest tenors of the 20th century has lost his battle.

Like the immortal Enrico Caruso, Luciano Pavarotti will be remembered, not just for his beautiful voice, but for making so many people aware of opera and its magic.

Tonight he sings with the angels.

Signor V.

"For me, there's only my wife..."

"Sure I cook with wine - sometimes I even add it to the food!"

"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies?"

"It was a grass harp... And we listened."

"Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? Every, every minute?"

"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."

Pavarotti was one of my favorite "famous" personalities of all time. His voice, so beautifully strong, was only part of it... he was a real entertaining personality and opened up a world unbeknownst to me. I will miss never hearing anything new by him again and I'm very saddened to learn of his death (even though it was obvious he was dying).

I was lucky enough to see him perform (at Brooklyn College) some 25 years ago and the excitement of seeing him "live" was indescribable.

He's one of the few famous people of whom I have a picture on my walls now.

R.I.P. Luciano.

I always wanted to see the great Tenors together... unfortunately, I never got the chance.

The best I can do now is, find less than the previous best.

RIP LP! \:\(

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

Man...this is sad. I knew the cancer had taken a huge toll on him, but...man...this is sad. \:\(

In his memory, here's a Three Tenor's rendition of My Way

RIP.

I know two people who died from pancreatic cancer - it is one of the worst forms of cancer one can have. He definitely suffered.

A great talent will be missed. \:\(

Gee, for me this has happened so quickly. I knew he was sick, but until yesterday, I didn't realize that he had terminal cancer. Sorry to hear the sad news. \:\(

My parents saw the Three Tenors a few years backed and loved them. They were definitely fans. RIP

Probably the greatest God given talent of any tenor in my lifetime, but part of his legacy will be that he squandered it by sellling out to sing in hockey arenas, became obese, drank too much and chased too many women. When his best friend and manager was confronted with this he said, "What do you expect? He's Italian!"

It is a great loss.

I saw an interview where he jokingly, or maybe he was serious, saying he was a sex symbol. He thought chubby guys could be sex symbols. I tend to agree.

I remember a movie he was in back in the 80's called "Yes, Georgio". He definitely appealed to more people than just opera fans. At least he isn't fighting pancreatic cancer anymore - my mother died of it 11 years ago and it is a bad one.

RIP

Absolutely beautiful. \:\) I've loved that song ever since I heard it as a kid and had to sing it in church with the class at Catholic school. Pavarotti's singing it gives me the chills.

...if that were true, I'd be getting more ass than a toilet seat. ;\)

Pavarotti was to opera what Muhammed Ali was to boxing: the celebrity, the flash and, in his prime, The Greatest. Thanks to Pavarotti, Millions of people are now opera buffs who would otherwise never have listened to an aria, much less paid for an opera ticket. That includes me.
