Perhaps not. Harlan Lebo's authoritative "The Godfather Legacy" mentiones New York, Los Angeles, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, Italy, Sicily and the Dominican Republic as shooting venues. He doesn't mention Miami. BTW: Meyer Lansky, the real life gangster whom Roth is based on, lived in a modest home in Hallandale, FL, which is several miles to the north of Miami.

Part of GF II was definitely shot in Miami because one of the great mistakes of film history was made. In the two driving sequences, they are driving vintage cars, first past what was Hialeah Race Track, and then up to Myer Lansky's house. If you look on the windsheilds there are Florida inspection stickers with the year written in large print. Florida did not require inspections in the fifties, when this was supposed to have happened, but it did at the time of the filming of GF II. So these scenes were definitely shot in Florida. BTW that law has since been repealed.

Personally, I think the scenes with those wonderful cars was filmed in the Miami area, or stock footage of the Miami area was projected in the background. My daughter, who lives in Miami, will be visiting in a couple of weeks, and I'm going to run them by her. The cars are yet another sign of authenticity, dt. Ola drives a '58 Chrysler New Yorker--no doubt Roth's car. It is exactly what a well-to-do Jew like Roth would drive in '58. Michael's in a '58 Ford Custom 300-- exactly what Avis would have rented to him. Colors are original, too. BTW: My parents had a condo on Three Mile Island Drive in Hallandale. How did you meet Meyer Lansky II and Myra?

I also hung around a guy who was the son of the manager (and nephew of the owner) of the Hollywood Dog Track (it was long ago sold), and they all knew the Lansky family, also knew Jimmy Blue Eyes. True story, as a kid I was once introduced to him and being a polite kid I said, "I am pleased to meet you Mr. Blueyes." It was rumored that Lansky laundered money found its way into the start up of the 7-11 Store chain and Lum's Restaurant Chain, both of which started in the Miami area in ther fifties. Lums is now out of Business but 7 11 has done very well.
