Mike, tradition's overrated. DVC, I'd only heard Dylan's number from your list; my favourite among the new is The Stooges'. Anyway, my list has changed already.

Mike, tradition's overrated. Untrue. Baseless tradition with no purpose is overrated. Those songs I've listed are songs that have something that most songs now-a-days lack: a heart and feelings and truth. I listed some alternatives that wouldn't have been mentioned on this list because they've earned mention and have stood the test of time. That's the mark of a truly great work of art, no? And if it remains true to us, then all the better. I admire and highly regard the works of many more contemporary artists and groups like The Beatles or Pink Floyd or Bob Dylan or the Stones. They're important, all of them. That said, to me, tradition isn't overrated if it's still relevant to the times: love, loss, pain, disapointment and truth will always be relevant.

Well, I could also mention classical pieces.
Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Debbusy and men of that era intrest me the most and of course Copeland, Gershwin and Stravinsky and Samuel Barber.
