I couldn't tell you what package we have with Comcast, but we get more channels than I'm interested in. We used to get HBO and Cinemax and their affiliated channels, but had that discontinued because we didn't watch it much.
I mostly watch sports on tv and once in a while watch a movie on one of the movie channels. I can't think of a present network show that I watch regularly.
My daughter likes Hannah Montana, which is on about 14 times per day. I sit through that sometimes with her. It's a little better than Drake and Josh. Sports is my number one choice of viewing but its a big fight in my house to get quality viewing time My daughter also makes me watch Hannah Montana & Drake & Josh.... She also makes me sit through Raven,The Savages and some show with Britney Spears little sister in it.... The boys are no problem cos they like to watch the wrestling, which i don't mind!
I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees!

I wish that you could pick the channels you want and not be forced when you buy a package, to get all the useless ones. For instance, (and I know I'm odd man out here), why do I need tons of sports channels??? For a sports enthusiast it's great, but if I had my choice, I might keep one or two (only for my sons-in-laws) and give the boot to the rest. Also, yesterday I was watching tv and they advertised a couple times certain programs and not to miss the season finale. How can we be in the finale already when the strike has been going on for what over a month? They are already talking finale. TIS

Try watching the English version of "The Office",its much better. Agreed. I just can't see how people say that David Brent (Gervais; U.K. original) is more mean-spirited than Michael Scott (Carell; U.S. version). Brent's dumb-assness was predominantly out of wanting to be liked. Scott wants to be liked, too, but he's much more assholish. For example, he cuts down Phyllis; he doesn't care about Kevin's biopsy results 'cause it's taking attention away from his birthday. Brent never did stuff that bad.

Pretty much the only thing they have in common is the name. As far as Extras, that is a great show. I like it better then the original Office. And the series final that aired last week was so good.

I don't watch the show. I saw an episode or two and liked it, but I guess I don't watch a lot of comedies even though this show takes place in my hometown.

The UK and US Offices are a much better comparison than your comparison of Extras to the UK Office. The Offices also have much more in common than just the show titles. The execution, among other things, is just different. Capo, I'm sort of a fan of Extras.

I didnt compare The Office to Extras, I said I liked Extras better. Just to explain where I'm coming from, since the word "better" (used as an adjective and adverb) is a comparative, you were comparing. You may not have intended to do so, but the words you used are another story. This explains why I replied to your reply to my reply.

It's a pretty good chance to try out new things. One of the best tv shows is returning with new episodes on January 7 on the Travel Channel. It's called Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. It's a hybrid foodie-travel show with attitude - http://travel.discovery.com/tv/bourdain/about/about.htmlWatch show clips here to get a taste - http://travel.discovery.com/video/video....upId=1119174400Food Network is reairing Bourdain's old show A Cook's Tour. It's also a foodie-travel show, but the food is more the emphasis, in my opinion. Find out what's beating cobra heart. Jamie Oliver ( Naked Chef) has a new show premiering on Food Network on Sunday January 6. I still enjoy Dirty Jobs on Discovery Channel. Those interior design shows like Design On a Dime are pretty cool. So are the house flippers. LA Ink (tattoo parlor, its workers and customers) on TLC is interesting. The greatest tv series The Wire is returning for its fifth and final season on HBO on January 6. I would recommend watching watching all the previous four seasons on DVD first in that order then catching up on Season 5 on HBO On-Demand. This show alone ought to keep one busy. Rewatch The Sopranos? Six Feet Under? Deadwood? Give brilliant, but cancelled shows Arrested Development or Freaks and Geeks a chance on DVD. PBS has interesting documentaries still.

I'd like to get into Arrested Development and Freaks and Geeks, and need also to start watching Seinfeld. Great stuff. All of them. I bought season one of The Wire, upon Kino and other people's recommendations. Haven't started it yet, though; I want to finish Sopranos first, and then head into it fresh. Over at your boards, you mentioned watching The Wire on your semester break. Will your retrospective get in the way of that? I hope not, I really think The Wire is the superior show in terms of content, themes, relevance, scope, and narrative art and craft. The Sopranos probably has the edge in characters in terms of eccentricity and soundtrack and stuff like that.

I've been watching three to five episodes in a row every night, finishing at about four in the morning. I go back to uni a week on Monday, so I won't have time for The Wire. But I'll be taking it back to uni with me... I've heard it's better than The Sopranos, but I'm going to approach The Wire as, essentially, a different sort of show altogether. One of my friends said it's a better comparison to The Shield (though he stresses The Wire is much better). The Sopranos has a special place in my heart these days. I'm actually in love with it. Speaking of the boards, I'd genuinely love it if you joined... PS. By the sounds of it, I think season four of The Wire will be my favourite. If I get that far.

I go back to uni a week on Monday, so I won't have time for The Wire. But I'll be taking it back to uni with me... Damn, man, then uni will get in the way. I've heard it's better than The Sopranos, but I'm going to approach The Wire as, essentially, a different sort of show altogether. Agreed. They really are different. One of my friends said it's a better comparison to The Shield (though he stresses The Wire is much better). While The Shield is a far better comparison than The Sopranos, it still is way off. No disrespect to your friend, but once you see The Wire, you'll know it's true. The Sopranos has a special place in my heart these days. I'm actually in love with it. I love it, too. Speaking of the boards, I'd genuinely love it if you joined... Never say never. PS. By the sounds of it, I think season four of The Wire will be my favourite. If I get that far. I have it tied with Season Three. Season Two isn't too far behind. When you say that, I hope you mean that access to the rest of the seaons is the limiting factor. Even if Season One doesn't interest you, I recommend still going through the rest and eventually finishing the whole series. Sort of like recommending someone go through the entire The Sopranos series even if they didn't find Season One interesting enough to go on. Believe me, I've met quite a few and read of people on the internet who didn't go on watching the series because Season One didn't hook them. I think it's a shame because I do think Season Two, Three, Four, and Six Part Two are better than One. Not to mention the great stand alone episodes throughout. Same for The Decalogue, Seinfeld,...

Yeah, I agree with you. I rarely stop watching something, because curiosity gets the better of me, and I'm of the opinion you should make a conscious effort to like something which at first doesn't tickle your fancy. The reason I say "If I get that far" is because I don't want to big it up too much and seem overly enthusiastic without having ever seen even a clip from it. Uni won't get in the way. It never has. I can easily watch two films a night, which averages at four hours... so, sacrificing films, I could see four episodes of The Wire in a night, maybe more. If anything, the only thing getting in the way is the fact my laptop isn't playing DVDs consistently (need to get that looked into) and as far as the house's shared TV goes, my housemates are addicted to watching Neighbors (an Australian soap), Hollyoaks (an English soap) and re-runs of Friends and Scrubs.
