Have you ever thought about putting a wood stove insert in your fireplace?

When we lived in VA we had a wood stove in our family room. I was great it kept the house toasty plus it really saved on the gas bill. Plus if the power goes out the house will still be warm. I really wish we had one here.

It was 36 degrees in Miami Beach this morning. And there were snow flurries at Disneyworld (Orlando) yesterday.

Take that, Al Gore.

I'm getting tired of it too. We're supposed to be getting a break. Tomorrow they're calling for a high of 36 and temps in the low 40s for the weekend. It will feel like Spring.

I have a cooler outside where the cans of beer have been frozen to the bottom where the water had frozen. The beer itself is not frozen, so I went to chop the ice to free myself an icy cold beer, but accidentally struck the can that exploded and sprayed beer all over me.

That's funny, Counselor . When I was still a young apartment dweller, I used to put my beer on the fire escape all winter long. I remember one time I forgot to take them in and they froze solid. I was still in my very early 20s and not making much money, so losing a case of Michelob bottles (I drank Michelob back then) was heartbreaking for me.

Its been snowing all afternoon here..

PB, when we lived in the Bronx, everyone put their beverages on the fireplace when they had a party. I forgot all about that until you just said it. God forbid there had ever been an actual fire on New Year's Eve!

I can't wait for this weekend! The 40s will be positively balmy in comparison to what we've had. I can't wait to open some windows and air out the house.

Same here. It'll be nice not having to wear layers for a couple days.

More snow last night. An inch or so! Nothing to us hardy northerners

What's considered a heavy snow storm in England? How many inches?

Normally several inches of snow over 2 or 3 days.

This spell we have had snow constantly for over 3 weeks and upto and over a foot of snow on the ground most of the time. The last cuople of days we melted away but like i said we had a bit more last night.

This has been officially the worst winter in over 30 years.

Bright and sunny and it's '37 right now. The icicles are melting.

They are predicting 6 to 8 inches of rain the next few days, beginning tonight. I kind of hope so. It's rare but it's nice.

It's raining now and it's '39. The snow is melting.

I should listen to my favorite weather geek. You'd never know rain is in the forecast. Right now it's very sunny and around 68 or so I'm guessing.

TIS, I went downstairs to wait for my food to be delivered. I wasn't out 5 minutes and I could feel the damp cold go right through my bones.

I remember those days very very well. I know it sounds like an ol' geezer story, but I remember walking to school every morning rain/shine. Warm coats, scarves, gloves. I hated going outside and feeling that cold go right to your bones. My sister and I went to Catholic school and it was about 1 mile or more away from home. Luckily my grandmother's house was on the way, and most of the freezing days, we'd detour there and have my dad pick us up on his way home from work.

It's funny because I wouldn't have thought of having my kids walk that far to school when they were young. Yet, it was not uncommon then.

Yep, and now that I think about it, it was more like 3 miles, and blizzard-type weather, icy snow. Plus, I couldn't afford boots, so my toes froze.

Ha ha ha...Yea the typical "when I was your age story" hu??? OMG, I'm old. I sound like my parents.

I'm at my Dad's in Westchester right now. It's a bit cooler here than in the city, so there's some freezing rain coming down pretty heavy right now.

As much as I hate snow, I do have memories, as a kid, of actually making snowballs and snow forts. I did go tobogganing on occasion and even ice skating. But even as a kid, I never enjoyed the winter like I did summer.
I always hated that I couldn't feel my fingers and toes, and even now, just don't like the freezing cold.

As I got older the more I disliked it. I remember heating up my car for about 15 minutes before I'd leave for work, so it'd be nice and toasty when I went in...from the house to garage to work.

I do that. I HATE getting in a freezing car.

Man, yesterday's weather was AWESOME. I think the high was around 50, which felt like 70 compared to what we've had. I'm a delivery driver, and I hate driving in the winter because I hate driving with the windows up.. but yesterday I got to keep 'em rolled down. Loved it.

Today? Cold, poopy, and rainy.
