If you're rich and famous, the rules just don't seem to apply to you. Sorry if I'm overreacting, but I loathe this piece of shit Spitzer. His crusade on Wall Street really hurt a cousin of mine. He and his family are still recovering. No Federal Charges Against Spitzer By JAMES BARRON, DANNY HAKIM and WILLIAM K. RASHBAUM, of The New York Times Published: November 6, 2008 ALBANY — Former Gov. Eliot Spitzer will not be charged with any crime for his patronage of a prostitution ring, federal prosecutors announced on Thursday. The announcement was made by the office of Michael J. Garcia, the United States attorney in Manhattan. Mr. Spitzer announced his resignation in March two days after The New York Times reported his involvement in a high-priced prostitution ring, the Emperors Club V.I.P. Mr. Garcia said in a statement that his office had found no evidence that Mr. Spitzer had used public money or campaign funds to pay for his encounters with prostitutes. “We have determined that there is insufficient evidence to bring charges against Mr. Spitzer,” Mr. Garcia said in the statement. “In light of the policy of the Department of Justice with respect to prostitution offenses and the longstanding practice of this office, as well as Mr. Spitzer’s acceptance of responsibility for his conduct, we have concluded that the public interest would not be further advanced by filing criminal charges in this matter.” Yusill Scribner, a spokeswoman for Mr. Garcia’s office, would not say whether the decision not to bring charges signaled an end to the investigation, which began late last year, or whether prosecutors would focus on other clients of the Emperors Club V.I.P. or others who had dealings with the people who operated it. In a statement released on Thursday minutes after the United States attorney’s announcement, Mr. Spitzer said: “I appreciate the impartiality and thoroughness of the investigation by the U.S. attorney’s office, and I acknowledge and accept responsibility for the conduct it disclosed. “I resigned my position as governor because I recognized that conduct was unworthy of an elected official.” “I once again apologize for my actions,” he said in the statement, “and for the pain and disappointment those actions caused my family and the many people who supported me during my career in public life.” Mr. Spitzer, reached on his cellphone, said that he would have no comment beyond the statement. Don D. Buchwald, the court-appointed lawyer for Ashley Alexandra Dupré, a prostitute Mr. Spitzer met in Washington on Feb. 13, said, “Ashley is pleased that this matter is behind her.” In the months since four people were charged in connection with the prostitution ring, prosecutors in Mr. Garcia’s office have considered bringing three different kinds of charges against the former governor, according to several people briefed on the matter: structuring financial transactions to pay for the liaisons in a way that concealed the source, purpose or destination of the money; using campaign donations or state money to pay for travel expenses related to trips he took when he spent time with the women; or transporting a woman across state lines for the purposes of prostitution. That is a crime under the Mann Act. The former governor has been avoiding publicity while he awaited Mr. Garcia’s decision. There have been very few glimpses of Mr. Spitzer and his wife, Silda; a Daily News reporter spotted them recently having breakfast on their wedding anniversary, and news cameras captured the couple waiting in line to vote on Tuesday. He has helped oversee the Manhattan real estate empire of his ailing father, Bernard Spitzer. Friends of the former governor have said he has been frustrated to sit on the sidelines during the global financial crisis. Mr. Spitzer, a Democrat, made his name as a crusading New York attorney general who took on Wall Street executives, many of whom took glee in his political demise. In mid-September, when he was approached by a reporter outside his father’s Fifth Avenue office, he lamented the federal rescue of the American International Group, the giant insurer, and defended the aggressive steps he had taken to force the ouster of its chairman, Maurice R. Greenberg, in 2005 amid an accounting scandal. He said the circumstances of his own fall from grace should not diminish his achievements. “I committed my sins, and I’ve paid for them,” he said. Then, referring to A.I.G., he added, “But I was right.” Asked at the time how he was doing, he shrugged and responded, with what sounded like joylessness, “Making money is making money.”

There were good people who had to resign from companies that he directed his focus on (simply to get elected, btw) because once the company was tinged with scandal, the entire executive floor was guilty be association. He ruined plenty of lives just for the heck of it. Amen to that. Fuck him, and his stupid skank of a wife, too. I'm really getting tired of these "stand-by-your-man" types of political wives. Do they need money and celebrity that bad, that they'll let themselves be completely humiliated? I have no sympathy for her either. The daughters, yes. The wife, no.

What a crock. If he was just some unknown off the street he would be doing time. And to think Spitzer held him self out as such an upright guy....even busting prostitution rings. There is a special place in hell for him. Don't sugarcoat it, DT. Tell us how you really feel. Rumor has it he's heading to Tampa-St. Pete to restart his political career. By Florida political standards, he's a Saint.

But I'm a Florida homeowner too, so who am I to complain?

I was so furious when I saw this. Spitzer is such a dickhead. I can't believe he got away with this. Legally he got away with it, but it ruined his life. It ruined his political career, and it ended with him as a fucking laughing stock. Everyone now knows of Spitzer.

Spitzer was just on Countdown. I have seen him in the past, but admit to not knowing him well. Then this scandal. You ever look at someone after you hear he's involved in this kind of story and think, "hmmm, he doesn't seem like the type." What IS the type? TIS

He's still free, he's still married, he still has his "real estate business" to run. He admitted that he patronized prostitutes and that he often brought them across state lines to do so, and yet the prosecutor has said that they don't have enough evidence. What a crock.
This man is an arrogant, power-hungry prick. There were good people who had to resign from companies that he directed his focus on (simply to get elected, btw) because once the company was tinged with scandal, the entire executive floor was guilty be association. He ruined plenty of lives just for the heck of it. I don't disagree with most of what you said. He is garbage, and a hypocrite. But IMO, he's paid a much higher price than any other 'John' would have paid. He lost a job as Governor of NY. He lost his future plans of running for national office. He was ridiculed mercilessly on television and in print. His poor wife had to stand by him while he apologized on TV. When "Joe Schmoe" gets caught banging a whore, he gets a slap on the wrist (if even that), and nobody knows about it.

Jesus, this is still an issue? I watched TV the other day for the first time since I've gotten to college, and a piece on this came up on the news, and I thought, "Are they honestly that fucking worthless?"
I mean, he fucked some chick, got caught, OK. Some people didn't like it, even though it doesn't really effect his ability to govern. He leaves office and is replaced with a pretty cool guy; awesome. End of story.
What more is there?
"Today, reliable sources have lead our investigative team to believe numerous vagina's were involved in the case, some shaven, some not."
Excellent. Other news: not important. Information pertaining to Spitzer's genitals, places they've been, and the terrible things that happen when they visit these places: can be used as a nutritional supplement for food.
"Somebody told me when the bomb hits, everybody in a two mile radius will be instantly sublimated, but if you lay face down on the ground for some time, avoiding the residual ripples of heat, you might survive, permanently fucked up and twisted like you're always underwater refracted. But if you do go gas, there's nothing you can do if the air that was once you is mingled and mashed with the kicked up molecules of the enemy's former body. Big-kid-tested, motherf--ker approved."

Jesus, this is still an issue? It's only still an issue because he tried to pass himself off as THE moral conscience of statewide politics. He dared the press to find something and they did. Fuck him. It's his own fault.
