Watched Part II with the mrs last night.

She has seen the film before, but again asked for clarity about who is young Tessio and who is young Genco.

Not clear at all in the finished cut, but would have been a lot more straightforward with the inclusion of a short deleted scene or two.

We know the business is set up as "Genco" etc. but it is Tessio and young Pete who are his business partners as Vito starts to become well known.

The two young actors playing both parts look similar on first glance, which does not help.

Genco is the guy who's joining Vito in the theatre, and is opening the door for Sr. Roberto, the landlord. He is also in a deleted scene when Vito and Genco are discussing that Fanucci's throat is cut "from ear to ear".

Young Tessio sit's at the dinnertable with Young Clemenza and Vito when they are discussing Fanucci's demand to give him $200, and Tessio is also giving Vito $50 in the streets during the parade, before Vito wacks Fanucci. Young Tessio is also in a deleted scene when he meets Vito for the first time, when he and Clemenza are visiting a friend of Clemenza.

Hope that makes things clear.

Genco was the son of the grocer who had to fire VIto because of the Fanucci Business, and as you say the guy in the vaudeville theater. He later became Vito's consigliere.
His son, or perhaps grandson was the P.R. flack in GFIII for Michael.

Wasn't that friend supposed to be the father of Carmine Coppola? I don't remember his name, tough.
Little Carmine was playing the flute while his father was fixing Clemenza's guns.

I knew the difference, perhaps others watching the film for the first time would not be quite so clear though?
