Possibly, the movie industry is testing the waters to see who goes to see a movie with the non-major (ie: Tony, Chris, Carmella) characters of the Sopranos to see if they can make a movie with the idea of not including Tony.
I doubt that's their reasoning. Those actors have appeared in like a dozen films together. They're typecasting personified. THE SOPRANOS will remain the high point of all their careers.

The Sopranos will be the high point of Gandolfini's career as well. Also, a movie without Tony would never be a big hit at the box office. Not saying that it wouldnt be a good movie, just that it wouldnt earn that much dough.

Also, not fer nuttin', but pretty much all these guys (exception: Nancy Marchand) were typecast to get on the show in the first place.
As for a Sopranos movie, if it's done right (my idea of a prequel, set when Johnny Boy and Corrado were running Jersey for Old Man DiMeo and Tony's hanging with Dickie Moltisanti and Jackie Aprile, struggling with whether to go on to Seton Hall or do the Family Thing), most of the roles will be filled with different actors anyway.
Message to Chase: PLEASE don't give us a Sex & The City-style reunion flick; it would be disastrous, all the film critics would come after you, David! Even your staunchest defenders would run for cover... so do us a favor, take this into consideration.

We might be able to tape the gun behind it.
