Instead of posting the entire article which is 2 pages, I'll just post the link.

Scary stuff here.

With everyone's 401(K) going into the shitter, I'm not sure it's that bad an idea.

I'd rather have a pension than a 401K but if the tax benefits are removed from 401K's I think the number of companies offering them or offering matched dollars would drop. Dramatically.

This is something I'll have to look into more.

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungleā€”as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

Yeah that's pretty scary getting a guaranteed retirement account that is guaranteed to exceed inflation.

Or wait, that's the opposite of scary.

Long as I remember The rain been coming down.
Clouds of Mystery pouring Confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, Trying to find the sun;
And I wonder, Still I wonder, Who'll stop the rain.

Iceman, what problem do you see with this plan? It seems good to me! One thing I don't know is how will government be able to guarantee inflation+3% return. But if the theory that market fluctuations are cyclical, i.e., eventually markets do revive after a recession, this plan is shielding the people from facing the immediate brunt of the market collapses. As long as the government gives inflation+3% and nothing more, even if the markets do extremely well, this is a sustainable solution.

Meant to post on this again just got caught up doing others things and wasn't able to get back to it.

I'm against this for multiple reasons, yeah peoples 401k's are looking bad, but we've all got to ride it out, things will get better can't say when but things will get better.

Plus I feel the government has no damn right to take what is essentialy mine and do what they please with it. That is socialism my friends pure & simple. Taxes are another matter which I'm not real happy with either.

3rd the program would be a government run program? Man if that doesn't raise all kinds of red flags then nothing will. Look folks the current social security system is a government run system and it's going bankrupt, yeah the government has done a damn fine job handling that. rolleyes I realize this proposed program would be different but still a government run program spells bad news.

And since when can the government guarantee anyting like what the plan proposes?
