The Departed or American Gangster. Both good flicks, gotta agree with lompac tho, nothing close to a goodfellas type movie.

I'd have to agree with the Departed. Road to perdition is a very stylish and well shot film too. Out of all these films mentioned, City of God is probably the best, in my opinion, but I'm not sure that I would classify it as a gangster film?
Hopefully Public Enemies will be good enough to put itself amongst these films soon!

I've not heard of this until now, thanks for the suggestion Capo. I'm adding it to NetFlix*. I know the topic is greatest "film", but maybe the telvision series The Wire should be in this discussion? As far as The Departed. I know I'll step on some toes here, but I thought it was horrible. I love what Scorsese has done with his career, but The Departed and Gangs of New York make me think he has lost his touch and now falls into the typical Hollywood garbage genre. *EDIT: Just saw it's not on DVD yet, but I saved it and will watch it when it's available.
