Definitely a prequel, in my opinion. Chase has TONS of material for prequel storylines. I would love to see Jackie Aprile, Johnny Boy Soprano, Old Man Baccalieri, Uncle Pat, and Junior raising hell in their day while Paulie, Tony and Sivio are the second bananas. I've said this since the show ended. I don't think that I really want to see a Sopranos movie that picks up or takes place after the show ended. I think that it should be left alone the way that it ended leaving it to the viewer's own imagination and interpretation. But I think that a prequel HBO series would go over really big. Young Uncle Junior, Johnnyboy Soprano, young Paulie, young Livia, etc. and Tony and his group as kids. A show that covers the early years. Personally I think that a throwback series showing the rise of Johnnyboy and Uncle Junior and company would go over really big. But there really must be some talk about a movie because last week I read an article in the daily news and Edie Falco was quoted as saying "Of course I’d be interested in doing it. I’m always the last person to know, but I love everyone on the show, and of course I would love it."However, according to the same article, David Chase claims that a Sopranos movie will not happen. Chase claimed that he's not going to open the story back up after seemingly killing Tony in the last seconds of the show. He said that he set up the ending, during an episode leading up to the finale, when he showed Tony talking to Bobby Bacala about what happens when you’re shot in the head and that he’s not going to go back to the characters because there’s really nobody left. Boy do I miss that show!
Don Cardi Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

I'm (still) vehemently against a movie.
I can't see how it would be anything other than an extension of "story". By that I mean, a financial cash-in; even with Chase on board.
I've no real interest in people rising up vicious ladders, in seeing how things "came to be"; unless of course there'd be some sort of critique alongside it, of the capitalist system that allows such exploitation to happen. But feature films rarely do that, especially when they're funded by and catered for the mainstream.
The whole narrative structure of the show and its approach to storytelling and thematic fabric depended entirely on the serial form.
A film would kill that; utterly. If it's a sequel, it'd completely flatten the show's end, make the show completely redundant. If it's a prequel, it may as well be a completely different film altogether, set in a different universe. The Godfather Part II: Part II would be so clichéd. But of course, the financiers wouldn't allow a different filmic world to happen, because that wouldn't have the same commercial potential or appeal as one in which the characters (and all their stories) are basically already written.

We can then see how Tony got his button by killing that bookie, how they robbed Feech's card game and Tony's panic attack the night Blundetto got sent down.
Why do you need to see it when you already heard about it? Wouldn't that be anti-climactic? It seems that you just want to see blood and action. Is that what you want the legacy of the show reduced to? Why not just turn it into a franchise like Freddy or Jason if that's the case?

I'll be surprised if it ever happens, just like a GF4. Maybe re-make and fix GF3 before making 4. As for The Sopranos as a feature film, I don't know. A prequel would be great in a way but if you are making a prequel is it going to be with different younger actors? Would it be a Sopranos movie without James Gandolfini???
