it has been ten years since the columbine massacre, and well just for thoughts about this truly dark day.

I remembered this when it happened and that girl in the library that was shot dead because she said she believed in Christ when she was asked by one of the gunmen.

If she said no, she would still be alive.

I saw an interview with one of the survivors. He was the boy who dragged himself to a window and rolled out and into the arms of the rescue workers, despite being shot in the head. Despite the fact that he had to relearn even the most basic skills, he graduated as valedictorian of his class! He is surely an inspiration, and proof that good can come from evil.

I remember hearing the news that day, and not being able to comprehend what it must have been like for those parents. You send your child off to school, thinking that they're safe, only to receive this news. It's beyond my comprehension. I just pray that the families of those lost that day receive some small measure of comfort in some way.

What happened at Columbine is just another example when you give people the "rights" to own firearms. Hell, I could walk into a gunshop and buy an automatic and use it that afternoon! What a crazy country.

Brits are allowed to buy guns?

Well yes and no. I am hardly a pro gun person, but the reasons for Columbine went well beyond the availability of weapons. The school was one of the first of the "mega-high schools" in the U.S. , which consolidated several schools into one. It was a windoewless factory and it set people such as the shooters up for alienation and the ultimate acts of vilence they perpetrated. Today's Columbine is a very different place and it is more likely than not that these people would have been singled out, and either put into counseling or removed from school well before they did what they did. That said the easy availablity of weapons made their acts easier and possible.

You can buy an automatic weapon in a shop and use it that same day in New York?

Please, not again. If it's him, this will be the second time he's been allowed to slither back here under a different screen name (Mini Mafia Boss, then Lompac). It really wouldn't be fair at all to the other people who have been banned from the site. If it's him, please don't let him get away with it.

I can tell it's MMB by the way the topic went from being about Columbine to being about MMB.

Exactly, but before it went to him there was a knock on the country. Further proof.

Welcome back Lompac!!

So is your IP address now.

He might've slipped by if he wasn't such a putz, but I guess he can't help himself.

Thanks, Geoffy. You're a good Don.

Let's not derail this thread, though. Ten years since that horrible killing spree, and two years since Va. Tech. Very scary stuff. God rest their souls.

Plus, isn't it Hitler's birthday? Wasn't that one of the reasons they picked today?

Geoff and SC, thanks for your quick action. You guys are the best. The fact that this idiot could have polluted a thread that was devoted to the memory of those senselessly slaughtered would have been too much.

one thing i do hate is young lives taken by the gun, and while i am pro gun i just want better gun control, so that there is a full background check (convicted criminals and those who have mental problems should not have guns!). the only way to prevent school shootings is to allow the teachers to carry guns for protection.

That's a scarier thought than not allowing them to carry weapons. They are not trained in hostage situations and there'd be a greater chance of innocent kids being killed/wounded if teachers carried guns.
