[quote=Turnbull]What scares me most is how some people on this board think the Mafia is a "benevolent" organization, an "honored society," and is something they aspire to join.[quote]
^^^^^^ This too.
Its also,to me, more the Sicilian Cosa Nostra than the Americans. Guys like Toto Riina, Giovanni Brusca(the chubby mafioso who dissolved the bodies of his victims, who included the 11 year old son of an informer, as well as blowing up Anti-Mafia hero and legend Falcone) and guys like Pino Greco. The shit these guys do under 'orders'. Its sickening.
Pino Greco aka "Little Shoe", a mobster from a mafia family, in every sense, was allied with Riina and the Corleonese during their rise. Amongst a suspected 300 odd murders (he was convicted of some 50) was the infamous slaughter of Salvatore Inzerillo, a water-shed event in the Corleonese's ascension, and which led to the banishment of many mobsters from Sicily.
Anyway, Pino Greco not only killed the 15 year old son of Inzerillo for swearing revenge, but also hacked of the kids arm for even thinking about raising it towards the boss. He was such an efficient killer and rising power that eventually Riina apparantly began to see him as a potential rival, and decided to have him killed before he got any ideas.
The fact that there were guys like this tends to tell me there still are guys like that around, which is what creeps me out a little.
Oh, and Mad Sam DeStefano. What a nutter.
(cough.)
