Any truth to this rumour that the three Godfather films are actually parts 4, 5 and 6 of the Corleone saga--- and that episodes 1,2 and 3 have yet ot be made - but will be after years of seculsion by their creators?

Where did you hear that one?
I'd like it to be true, of course, but since one of the creators is dead, and the other is a filmmaker who I wouldn't exactly call prolific, I'd say "No chance."

Also, what would the initial 3 be about, if this was a serious question ? While it was implied that Antonio Andolini was perhaps involved in criminal activity of some sort (GFII) along with his brother (The Sicilian), who is never named, it doesnt seem like there's enough action there to create three full films. Unless of course you're talking about the first three episodes being in the space between the GFII DeNiro parts and GFI, from about 1927 to 1941/1945, which I would love, instead of all three taking place before the young Vito Sicily scenes, which would mean it would all be 19th century stuff. Either way, probably not likely, like plawrence said.
I dream in widescreen.

Any sequal/prequel will only ruin the already amazing trilogy.

Ok, I found some information about this rumor of 3 prequels to the GF Trilogy, and here is what I've found so far: The Godfather Eposide One, "Rise Of The Boss", takes place in Italy. Antonio Andolini is 5 years old and is the fastest Donkey Racer in the town. He also has this gift of building donkey carts with his own hands. There is a faction in the same town that is looking to bring young Antonio to the dark side, under the Sith Lord Darth Ciccio. In GF Episode 2 "The Italian Menace", we see a teen Antonio shrarpening his fighting skills with the Lupara. There are only a select few who are blessed with the ability of using the Lupara. Teen Antonio meets a pretty young girl from the village and begins courting her. He tells her of his dream to do good deeds for the poor people of the village by working for La Carabinieri. A Lupara Knight takes young Antonio under his wing and begins to train him in the ways of La Carabinieri. But Sith Lord Darth Ciccio has other plans for young Antonio. Slowly Sith Lord Ciccio brings Antonio to the dark side, but the episode ends with young Antonio having an inner battle between doing what is good, and what is evil. Godfather Episode 3, "The Revenge Of La Casa Nostra", Antonio Andolini has married the young girl from the village. Meanwhile while working for La Carabinieri, he is secretly working for the Sith Lord Darth Ciccio, who has now changed his name to Don Ciccio. Antonio fathers a young boy named Paulo. However the dark side is taking over young Antonio's mind, and he is becoming stonger and stronger in the dark side. He begins to rise up under Sith Lord Don ( Darth) Ciccio, and together they form an alliance called La Cosa Nostra. Menawhile Antonio's wife becomes pregnant. A final conflict takes place between The Lupara Knight who trained young Antonio, and Antonio has the opportunity to kill The Lupara Knight, but his good side wins over and he does not follow through. Sith Lord Don Ciccio finds out that Antonio was weak in the dark side, so he has his Bounty Hunter find Antonio and The Bounty Hunter kills Antonio. The movie ends with Antonios wife giving birth to a baby boy, whom she names Vito. But the midwife informs her that there is a second child, a twin that she is ready to deliver, and it turns out to be another boy whom she names Emilio. Antonio's wife decides that she will keep Vito and his brother Paulo with her, but that it would be best if she hid the ther twin's identity from everyone. So she gives the twin son Emilio to the midwife, who takes the baby to America, and gives the child a loving home with a family that she knows who cannot rear children of their own. The family adopts baby Emilio and has his last name legally changed from Andolini to their own name....Barzini. Don Cardi
Don Cardi Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

Last I heard a rumor like that, I was about 12 years old, and, the rumor was about Star Wars, not The Godfather... Edit: Damn, DC beat me to it!

Im sure this means nothing to anyone anymore because im getting in so quick but this seriously sounds like a rumuor created by a bored Star Wars fan. Not that i have anything against Star wars fans. But my guess is that someone wanted to screw up the Godfather fans.
But hey what do i know!!!

The series did not need GFIII, much less any more.
Well let me tell you something my Kraut Mick friend, I'm gonna make so much trouble for you, you won't know what hit you!
