The Sudanese capital of Khartoum was the site of the organized declaration of "no peace" with Isreal.
Eight Arab heads of state attended an Arab summit conference in Khartoum during August 29 - September 1, 1967. It formulated the Arab consensus that underlay the policies of most Arab states against Isreal.
although this happened after the scene, but before production, it's intriguiging that a Jewish man would name his most prized possesion Khartoum.
The city is one the fabled final resting place of such treasures as the gold from King Solomon's mines and the Ark of the Covenant when Jerusalem fell. The discovery and return of the Ark to Jerusalem was one of the restorations needed for an Isreal state pre WWII.

although this happened after the scene, but before production, it's intriguiging that a Jewish man would name his most prized possesion Khartoum. Would you apply this same logic to Jews that buy Mercedes Benz's. I would suggest that maybe the horse was an Arabian horse, and he named it after the capital, without prejudice to political differences.
I love my Chrysler and tuna fish sandwiches.
