Obviously, he was a man ahead of his time.
HOW DID JEFFERSON KNOW?
When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe . Thomas Jefferson
The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. Thomas Jefferson
It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world. Thomas Jefferson
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. Thomas Jefferson
My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government. Thomas Jefferson
No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. Thomas Jefferson
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government. Thomas Jefferson
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Thomas Jefferson
To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical. Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson said in 1802: 'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property - until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.'
ONLY gun owners have the POWER to PROTECT and PRESERVE our FREEDOM. "...it is their (the people's) right and duty to be at all times armed" - Thomas Jefferson, June 5, 1824

Thomas Jefferson had an almost pathological distrust of the urban masses which he disdained because he perceived them as itinerate, unproductive, illiterate, uneducated, and highly manipulable. He thought that control of government should repose with those who were close to the soil, the rural people. So, his words quoted above are not unexpected.
As a southerner, it's not surprising that he disdained banks. He saw them as instruments of wealthy northerners. That's why he opposed a National bank. He figured that it would be used to advance the interests of business et al in northern states.
In addition, his personal indebtedness compelled his heirs to sell off most of his property including Monticello. Again, his admonishments regarding debt have their roots in his personal financial obligations.

He also believed the Gospels were mostly nonsense, and he re-wrote them removing what he thought was untrue. Hahaha Yah alot of these predictions are a little generic to impress me in anyway.

Didn't Jefferson have a few slaves? Yeah, and one of them was his mistress.

Back in 1962, President Kennedy hosted a dinner for every living American Nobel Prize winner. The cream of the arts and sciences was there. Kennedy remarked (about the guests): "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone". I cant' begin to tell you how good it is to have you back, SC. Even if it's just for a fleeting moment. We could all use a break from this place now and then, I guess. It helps keep the anger in check . But seriously, you were really missed, and it's GREAT to see you back here . Sorry for hijacking the thread, so I'll throw in my two cents. Jefferson was a racist piece of crap, so his "predictions" mean little to me.

All I suppose because of his professed ideal of seperation of church and state, which one must admit Afs, especially you can attest that perhaps Tom was onto something after all. Exactly, that was what I meant. These right-wing nuggets of wisdom that we all get, spam or otherwise is just so self-serving. Here in particular, it fails to mention the most important ideal he had, well at least to me, the separation of the church and state, Iran's situation case in point. How did he really know indeed? And then the same people who send these, hate his guts for that one particular issue! Well, not all the right-wingers granted, but still! It is just ironic.

Aah yes, everything is bigger in Texas, right? Freud would've had a ball with that slogan . But I can't knock Texas, as much as some Texans piss me off. I worked for a large company for over 20 years, whose headquarters was in Houston. I was down in that area maybe a dozen times over the years, and the people were almost too friendly (hey, I'm a jaded New Yorker). Great bars and restaurants. Lotsa noise and lotsa fun. And I gotta say, even though Texas is geographically in the south, the people are very atypical of southerners (kinda like urban Florida).

That said pizzaboy, Texans should be barred by law from becoming President. They can't help but man wreckless, adventurous budgets and wars that left many many many years of clean-up to fix. Some which are still there we're dealing with. No argument there, son. And I'll go you one better: Anyone with a southern drawl should be precluded from the Presidency. Except Tennesseans, by way of Pembroke Pines .

No argument there, son. And I'll go you one better: Anyone with a southern drawl should be precluded from the Presidency. Except Tennesseans, by way of Pembroke Pines . It may work on J Geoff, but brownnosing won't for me. Besides southern Oval Office attendees haven't been complete screwjobs like fuckin' Texas. If one counted Kentucky as the South, it gave us perhaps our greatest President, at the least the most rhetorically stirring giving the world the best argument for Democracy and America since Jefferson. Anyway, racist and expanding the spoil system into an art, Andrew Jackson by his mere sincere threat kept South Carolina from going thru on their succession threat and possibly starting the American Civil War a few decades early. I mean this was the same guy who once a would-be assassin ran up to him and pulled two revolvers (!) and pulled the trigger, both guns misfired, and bystanders had to pull the aggitated President away for he and his cane was promptly beating the fucking shit out of this shooter. This might be why John C. Calhoun didn't call Andy's bluff, because I'm certain Jackson would have put his old uniform back on, raise an army, march down there, and lynch Calhoun personally. Later another racist redneck President in Woodrow Wilson who made the slight mistake of endorsing BIRTH OF A NATION as "history written in lightning". Other than that, he was responsible for the Federal Reserve system, signed stronger anti-trust legislation, and even if his own country didn't join it (partly by his own fault), the League of Nations was a noble good idea. Even if I think his naive idealism on Nationalism and such Determination in foreign policy harmed more than helped if you ask me. LBJ can be blamed alot of guns 'n' butter nonsense (escalating Vietnam wrecklessly, blowing up the budget) but he was the President who got the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed. Ironically he used the martyrdom of JFK, a President who did everything possible to not have to deal with the Civil Rights issue only when forced by circumstances out of his control. Think now with Obama and the Gays. Also I must say, PBS was a good idea too. Without PBS and Viewers Like You, where would we Americans have discovered foreign TV imports like MONTY PYTHON and DOCTOR WHO? Not much to say about Jimmy Carter, but he can forever pimp about his Camp David Accords. What subsequent American Presidency have made that much success in making peace in that region of the world? As for Clinton, transparent crook he was he did shame the GOP by overseeing the first balanced Federal budget in decades and signed the wonderful Presidential Line-Item Veto, which unfortunately the Supreme Court aborted. He did though fuck-up on Health Care and other shameful failures like Rwanda, he and Europe ignoring Kosovo for too long, DOMA, DADT, and (if reports are to be believed) not giving the go-ahead to assassinate Bin Laden when there was a clear chance. Also he got blown by a fat ugly chick.
