Do we have any Scotch drinkers? The best Scotch that there is, was, or ever will be, is Islay Scotch Whisky, from the Island of Islay, located on the southernmost of the Inner Hebridean Islands off the west coast of Scotland.

One night while at the home of a friend in government I had a glass from an Achenvoir distilled bottle, circa 1623. Needless to say, only a couple of sips from a whiskey so purely composed and masterfully preserved gives you a bit of an out-of-body experience without the delusionary effects of hard drugs.

It's been said the the lure of the science involving Whiskey brewing is what pulled Europe out of the dark ages. The science of course originated in ancient Iraq, and it's been postulated by many historians that the West's thirst for this whiskey was the true link between East and West. Europe would incidentally become the major brewers of the world while Egypt and the Middle East seemed to drop the practice.

I'm not a huge fan of whiskey in general (I prefer the clear stuff), but now and then I will enjoy a nice Single Malt like Lagavulin, Glenfiddich, or Glenlivet.

I can't imagine the value of a bottle from 1623!

Don't make him feel bad. Maybe he can't afford a newer bottle.

My two favorite scotches are J&B and Cutty Sark, because they're a bit lighter than most scotches.

I'm not a real big scotch guy in general, but if you're in a manly-man steak house, surrounded by all that oak, in a macho who-has-the-biggest-dick atmosphere, there's something about a scotch that can't be beat. It's an event. The sound that the cubes make when the scotch melts over them. The first burning sensation at the back of your throat . . .

It's part of being a guy.

I have a bottle of Glenfiddich that was gift....maybe 15 years ago. Never been opened. Someday a Scotch drinker may come to my home and say, "Got any Scotch?", then I can say yes, amd I will toast to their life.

Like Geoff, I'm a drinker of the "clear".....like one of those steroid users. :D, as a matter of fact right now I'm enjoying a sip of the clear (Exclusiv, Vodca, from Moldava, ...cheap, but tasty.)

Funny you mention that, MC. I was planning a trip to south Jersey.

I drink the 12y/o blended stuff. Usually Dewars Special Reserve, Johnny Walker Black, or Chivas.

I love my vodka and all, but are you gin fan? If so, here's my favorite: New Amsterdam (ironically not from New York, but California). It's SO good, that I actually prefer it to vodka (go figure! ). Even if you don't like regular gin, get a small taste of this and tell me what you think... I love it!

I sometimes have a gargle of Glenfiddich....on special occasions!

What kind of guys have you been hanging out with? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I keep Chivas on hand for special occasions and visits. I often give it out as Christmas gifts. I try to stay away from whiskey, and avoid it completely if I'm driving.

Maybe you ordered a few bottles of Chivas at that bachelor party. That might explain a chunk of the bill.

Might anyone tell me Cutty Sark , I can not say that I like this but are there our there who do or I should say on this board. A person sees it in alot of movies etc. is that just to sell the stuff.

I love the stuff. Whisky (scotch), wine and ales are my tipples. Glenfiddich 15 years is my favourite, but often out of my budget so I often settle for the cheaper single malts - most recently Glen Moray which isn't half bad. The problem with me is that when I start drinking I really get into it so sometimes I'll even downgrade to fairly decent blended varieties because I'll easily get through a bottle in a night or two and I don't like to waste the good stuff too quickly. If I've only had half the bottle I can still wake up fine for work the next day (It's a blessing in disguise providing I don't abuse it too often).

Earlier in the summer whilst waiting for my delayed flight to Kos, Greece, I tried a load of premium whisky's for free at the airport. To be honest they just weren't for me at all - they had great flavours but were so soft. Usually a decent single malt in England would cost between £25 and £35. That's a lot of money for me but I tried some in the region of £90 to £120, including the Glenfiddich Age of Discovery and it wasn't as good as the 15 year Glennfiddich.

For me it's strictly no ice and no mixing with anything else. Neat whisky, slightly warm so it's even harsher in your mouth. I just love it when it hits the back of your throat

I wish I didn't see this thread as I've got work in the morning, which wouldn't usually be a problem, but I'm going to the gym after that and need to be full of beans.

My dad has a gallon (~3.8l) bottle of Seagram's V.O. Canadian Whisky [sic.] (blended) from 1962, mounted in a tiltable housing. To the best of anyone's knowledge it's never been opened, tho after almost 50 years the tax-stamp isn't fully intact. I can't drink the brown stuff (at least that much of it in a decade!), so any offers will be considered... Shipping cost is up to you, tho

Sainsburys are selling litre size bottles of Famous Grouse for £13....which is a bargain. A few of them going out as Christmas pressies this year

I know it's great itsn't it. I've already had a few purchases of them. That's the sort of Whisky you're quite happy to drink like it's pop. There's no need to savour it!

Took my sleigh down and got some scotch, picked up some T&L as they were out of what I wanted. Had it before but won't write home about it. Beats drinking yellow snow. Thar ya go.
