I was recently thinking about Goodfellas, and it occurred to me that when he was having an affair with Janice, Henry was stupid to suddenly be at home far less than he was before without being able to give Karen a credible explanation for this. Doubly so because given the lack of a fixed, predictable work schedule wiseguys have, it should be easier for them to keep an affair secret than it is for most people. Of course, if Henry hadn't spent so much time with Janice, it might have been her pointing the gun in his face instead of Karen!

I think Henry believed he was following the "norm" among the Mafiosi he worshipped. It was "expected" that a Mob guy would have one or more goumads with whom he spent considerable time, but would never divorce or leave his wife. Only problem there was that Karen didn't accept the "norm." Actually, that was the only part of the Mafia lifestyle Karen didn't like.
