Shortly after finishing The Godfather trilogy, I said to my girlfriend (now wife) that I will never see a movie as good as The Godfather ever again -- and I fully expect this to be true.
But what I didn't expect is for there to be so few movies that have moved me as much as The Godfather has. I mean here it is, almost 10 years after I saw it and I'm still posting on message boards about it.
So what are some of the movies that have moved you like The Godfather and caused you to obsess over them endlessly, or on a lesser level to a certain extent?
Mine would have to be as follows:
Star Wars - Yes, the new trilogy pales in comparison to the original, but all movies are fun to watch because they all tie into one another -- and that's why I love The Godfather so much -- because there is such a deep wealth of detail and information to explore, years and years after watching it for the first time.
Back to the Future - I feel the same way about BTTF as I do about Star Wars. I love trilogies because there is a lot to digest and that makes repeat viewings that much more fun. This is lighter than Star Wars though, but just as much -- if not more -- fun.
Bram Stoker's Dracula - this is an odd choice, but I usually watch this movie once a year to remember how awesome a director FFC was, and how much we miss him today since he hardly directs anymore. This movie is a visual orgasm and I love every second of it. I also dug the love story aspect of it to. And the musical score rivals The Godfather's for the best musical score of all time, IMO.
Scarface - Al Pacino makes this movie and it's fun to see him play this role after playing such a reserved and conservative character in The Godfather films. It's also fun to watch this movie again and piece together different parts of the complex plot.

Speaking of trilogies, the first three 'Aliens' do it for me. Alien Resurrection is great for about three quarters of the movie, but the ending, with that half-human half-alien giant baby thing getting sucked out into space, is just too daft. Hilarious, though. What do others think?

See, we can act as smart as we want, but at the end of the day, we still follow a guy who fucks himself with kebab skewers.

Casablanca Maltese Falcon Diva, a 1980's French crime thriller. It is a very good film.
Big Trouble In Little China is a strange but good film (I think I am in a minority here) that is fun as well.

Devil's advocate Amadeus Scarface The Untochables
You were right about one thing. I have been watching. Couldn't help myself. Watching, waiting, holding my breath. But I'm no puppeteer Kevin, I don't make things happen. Doesn't work like that. Free will, it's like butterfly wings, one touch and it never gets off the ground. I only set the stage. You pull your own strings.
