I'd suggest you next tackle one or more Mob biographies, since each covers more than just the individual being written about:
Little Man - Meyer Lansky and the Gangster Life(Robert Lacey) is the best overall Mob bio, IMO. Thoroughly researched. Debunks many myths about Lansky. Gives first-rate background on growth of gambling in Cuba and Nevada, and plenty about Bugsy Siegel and Charlie Luciano.
King of the Godfathers (Anthonly DiStefano) is a solid, factual tracing of Big Joe Massino's career, and is very good about all the complex machinations of the Bonanno Family following Joe Bonanno's "retirement."
A Man of Honor is Joe Bonanno's autobiography. All autobios are
apologias for the author, and this is no exception. Keeping in mind that Bonanno lied up, down and sideways about his career (especially drugs), it's still a fascinating read. It has the best extant description of the famous Castellemmarese War, and has some very interesting descriptions of his fellow Mobsters.
Capone had two excellent bios, both titled
Capone: by John Kobler and Laurence Bergreen. Kobler's is the more scholarly of the two, but Bergreen's has more detail.
Hope this helps.
