The book doesn't say anything about this. I recommend you rewatch the scene very closely as it reveals all you need to know.

The other acts of violence commited by the family are , in my mind atleast, quite justified, always directed towards people that had it coming to them.

I always wondered how a professional like Neri could be so stupid as to allow himself to be seen by Geary in that scene.
Maybe it was a cineatic device to show the audience who killed the prostitute.

As for killing people who had it coming to them, apparently hookers are the exception to the Corleones. Remember in I they killed a hooker who was with Tattaglia.

Where does it show that Geary sees Neri?

We the viewer see him, but I don't think Geary sees or notices him. The only reason they show him is to make sure we the viewers know that he has been set up.

Killing the hooker was a very small price to pay to hook Geary.

For all that Geary would know is that Neri was there to help clean up this mess of his, as he already may have seen Neri from the vist in Michaels office. After all I trust these men with my life senator....

The real item is, how was Neri feeling about all this and Geary. It always seem to me that Neri looked down on Geary and stood around like he was saying take that you little piece of shit! Now who is King Shit....

That's exactly it DT. Otherwise, we are left with Geary's truncated comments about how it happened which might not make much sense to an audience. It always cements the conspiratotial links between the murder and Michael's intent.
