here in NY i know a handful of people that currently or used to run book and none of them had any LCN ties at all. none of them, besides one, would ever ever ever lay anything off, either. I think its easier today to run an (obviously smaller scale) independent book with the internet - not talking about the big powerhouse sites like bodog but smaller ones that are customizable and just log transactions but the money is still cash handled offline.
