But what is even better is this line:

Quote:
But if there's something that always amazes me in the trilogy is its capacity of surprising me even after... what?... 20 visits? 30? Sometimes, it's a minor insight about its structure - as when I first realized that in the first two films Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall) has to tell his Don about the death of a child (in Part I, that of Santino to Don Vito; in Part II, about Kay's abortion to Don Michael). Sometimes, it's a realization regarding the particular relevance of an specific moment (I've written in my blog about how I consider Santino's line to Sollozzo "Whoa, now, you're telling me that the Tattaglias guarantee our investment without...?" as the most important one in the whole trilogy).

Interesting. Thoughts?

Yes, interesting because it was Sonny's gaffe that led to everything else. Of course, had Sonny not voiced that gaffe, Vito would still not have supported the drug trade and who knows what consequences would have proceeded from that.

Wow that bloogger is more of a maniac than most of us! I am not sure if the development of Kay's clothing was deliberately coordinated by Coppolla, but who knows, after all the color orange played a huge role in the pictures. orange

I think Kay's fashion begins and ends with the Athenian battle helmet hair in the hotel room.

I think James Caan's performance is the most underrated part of GF1&2. That said, I've always thought he misread the line about the Tataglia guarantee. Before I read the book, I thought Sonny was expessing skepticism more than eagerness.

Hmm. That's a good point Pete about Sonny. Maybe he was skeptical. But, in any case, Sonny's exclamation was premature because he shouldn't have expected Sollozzo to mention the Tattaglia's percenatge at that point in the proposal. Although such a percentage would have been customary in such a deal, it was a detail that would have only come up later if Vito had okayed the deal. However, I've never felt comfortable interpreting his exclamation as eagerness.

I've also thought that Caan expressed more skepticism than eagerness. Thus, I think, that this is one of the few momemnts of bad acting.

Agreed.

Caan blew the line.

He was too aggressive, so it wasn't clear that he was interested.

I think the article does a great job pointing out the importance of a wardrobe designer and how they can also tell stories or reflect the emotions of a character based on what they wear. Just awesome, and another reason why The Godfather is the best movie ever made.
