That's what set Michael apart from his brothers. Fredo wanted to do some things in order to feel important; Sonny seemed to want the power without the responsibility and saw the trees, but not he forest. Michael had an appreciation for it all. He had that depth of understanding so essential to a successful anybody in anything.
I still think Mike get way too much credit for a don. sure he was better than Sonnyin certain ways and fredo but Mike dodged death/jail because of his own mistakes. i mean lets be fair without Vito telling him point blank that either Tessio or Clemenza would betray him he would have been dead. also Roth outsmarted him when everybody including pantangeli was telling him that Roth was a snake. I know I will get shit for this but i dont see how he was flawless. i mean Vito was still the best don No question Vito was the best Don of the three. Michael lacked Vito's compassion and sense of reason. Vito commanded loyalty because people respected him. Michael, on the other hand ruled by fear.

However I noticed that many people claim he is the flawless don when i see that he made quite a few blunders that he got out of from pure luck or some help
