Yes, it's the Riddle of the Ages - what the hell exactly is that chord? Instantly recognizable to Beatles/Rock & Roll fans the world over for close to fifty years, it has, nonetheless, remained a mystery shrouded in legend.

Now, you can listen as it's thoroughly explained in less than two minutes. Fascinating stuff.

"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."

Nice.

The opening of I Feel Fine came about by accident, John leaned his guitar against the amp and it went, 'Nnnnnnwahhhhh! so they decided to put at the start of the song.

Very cool, and sounds right to me! But a mathematician broke it down in more detail adding a piano chord by "5th Beatle" George Martin. (Check out that PDF! o.O)

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

Thats great Vitelli. I knew it was a G variation and possible composite chord, but that explains it rather well. Nowhere near as simple as a G7 like some tab sites show.

I had also thought that George Harrison basically invented the chord. Not the G or the sus. chord, but added the notes he wanted to fit for that opening chord.

(cough.)

Wow, that's really kind of neat. I don't recall ever hearing it broken down before but it is definitely a unique sound. I think everyone could name that tune in one note. tongue

Very interesting info SV

The chord he claimed he invented was used in "I Want To Tell You" and later again Lennon borrowed it for "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" right after the "she's driving me mad!" lyric. It has a jarring dissonant sound.

I find that the older I get the more I enjoy and appreciate The Beatles' music. They truly were unique and really created some great tunes. Great share, Signor V!

As an amateur not formally trained guitarist, I found most of the Beatles songs complex to play. They used a lot of crazy chords and progressions. That H.D.N. chord is quite cool, not easily played by one guitar, but as explained three instruments played it. I'm a fan of the Dsus4 myself.
