What Vegas was to Chicago is what AC is to the Eastern Families. Chicago divvied up what was to be made in Vegas; KC, Detroit, St. Louis, etc. Though no one does that with AC, it's more shared equally between Philly, Genovese, and Gambinos.

In his book Blood Oath, George Freselone talked about how, because of the fear of organized crime infiltration into the Atlantic City casinos, it was a different situation for the mob than Las Vegas. The oversight was much tighter from the beginning so it wasn't really possible for the mob to control the casinos directly like they had in Vegas. So, instead of going through the "front door," as Freselone put it, Scarfo went through the "back door" by controlling the Local 54 of the Hotel Employees & Restaurant Employees Union. With the threat of labor problems, that gave them influence over the casinos as far as who got contracts for ancillary services and what not.
But the biggest involvement in the beginning was probably in the construction of the hotels and casinos themselves. Freselone said Scarfo made a deal with the NY families where they got the construction contracts if he got Local 54. It did end up being this way for the most part. But a couple Scarfo companies - Scarf Inc. and Nat Nat - were involved in the building. And the Genovese family later shared control of the Local's funds with Scarfo.
As for recent years, there hasn't been much news. A couple mob-connected companies from both New York and Philadelphia have had trouble getting contracts and that's made the papers. But beyond that, there was just the gambling bust a few years ago where the Philly mob was running a sports betting operation out of the Borgata casino.
