According to Scott Burnstein, as cited on the other forum (McScott has done great work re. Detroit LCN for many years).

He was made back in '53 and served a couple years as underboss. Apparantly his son Jackie is next in line for the top spot after Tocco (also information sourced from Burnstein.)

mcscott has passed on that 3 Detroit mob guys have died in the last month -

Vito "Billy Jack" Giacalone (capo, underboss)
Anthony "Tony T" Tocco (capo, consigliere, acting boss)
Frank "Chinky" Versaci (soldier, big bookmaker on Eastside out of his butcher's shop)

mcscott is a good guy and i personally appreciate all his detroit info, i just think they are made out to be a much powerful family than what they really is (maybe i am wrong)

im a guy who likes to see facts, articles, indictments, etc and that gives me an idea of what level of activity these guys are up to, i havent seen anything out of detroit ever since ive had an interest in LCN and actively sought info out

just my two cents

Tommy Shots: They want me running the family, don't they know I have a young wife?
Sal Vitale: (laughs) Tommy, jump in, the water's fine.

Exactly. I thought one of mcscott's recent comments was rather ironic. He said he was the "only one" in the local media in Detroit covering the mob. I wonder why? whistle

I believe Burnstein's info. What about the guy that does the stuff on the old Rockford mob? I guess he's not a big fan of Ivy's, but hey, we can't please everybody.

For the record, I've always gotten along with both mcscott and ladri. They're always polite. And while I may not agree with everything they present, I appreciate the information they do provide, which is a lot. Not going to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Inevitably, the people who believe there are still 60 made guys in Detroit, or that there is a family in Rockford today, try to make it a wiseguy/IvyLeague vs. whoever. But it's not about my opinion. It's simply what law enforcement says and recent cases show.

Jeez, Ivy Leauge, that wasn't very nice. lol

I'm surprised the word "underground" hasn't appeared in this thread yet.

Again, I'm not trying to be insulting. I like mcscott a lot. But, in my opinion, there is a reason why he's a lone voice talking in the wind. All the good info he does provide aside.

Hopefully I'm wrong but, with the ranking of families thread over on the RD forum, and the discussion about Detroit, it may get a little ugly again. It's very much a dead horse topic but it always has a tendency to bring lurkers out of under their rocks. Old arguments and beefs get drudged up. And certain people try to make it a wiseguy/IvyLeage vs. mcscott thing, when it's not.

But that's OK. As Fat Clemenza said, we need these wars every 5 or 10 years. Gets rid of the bad blood. wink

Well, not really... whistle

Speaking of mcscott, the Giacalones, etc., here is a hilarious story mcscott passed along one time over on the Real Deal...

"one funny story about Morelli that was told to me by my grandfather who used to golf with ronnie and tony jack back in the '70's.

some guys golfing behind a threesome of my gramps, tony jack and ronnie, didnt know who they were and started complaining about how slow they were moving on the green. this dumbass guy got so pissed he drove his golf cart up to them when they were about to tee off on the 9th hole. when tony jack stepped away from his ball a few times and switched clubs, he started cursing at tony jack for being old and slow and holding everyone behind them up. according to my gramps, Morelli immediately took a driver out of his golf bag, walked behind the guy in the middle of his rant, and beat him over the head with it for a good thirty seconds. with the dude laying there bleeding, ronnie stood over him and allegedly said, "Listen here you degenerate, big mouth cocksucker, Mr. Giacalone will take as long as he wants to tee off and if u have a problem with it, I'm gonna take by nine iron out and stick it up your fucking ass." tony jack than teed off and the threesome got in their own golf cart and drove away, with everyone who witnessed the incident, including my gramps, in awe of what just happened."

lol

Here's a photo mcscott posted a few years ago. It's Jackie "The Kid" Giacalone, who is expected to become boss after Jack Tocco dies or steps down. The girl is his daughter, Chantel.

But you agree Detroit are still active though? I'm pretty sure they are still around.

I've said before that there is enough conflicting statements by the feds for one to believe there is still a viable family in Detroit. Meaning, it has some semblance of a hierarchy and ongoing activity.

However, I don't believe there is much evidence to support the belief that the family is thriving under the radar with as many as 60 members.

In my opinion, it's more likely that the total membership (active, inactive, etc.) is closer to half that at most. And that the lack of news out of Detroit comes from the mob there basically being involved in mainly one thing - illegal sports betting.

Neither would I. As Rosalie Aprile would say, "Oh, what beautiful children they'd (her and I) would make"

Though that picture has been on streetgangs for years.

Yeah, I posted it there shortly after mcscott put it up on the Real Deal years ago. Street Gangs is as dead as the AM forum is now.
