hi,
i read that there is no sardinian mafia, but traditional groups of criminals in sardinia which were spezialized in kidnapping.from what i have gathered on informations, these groups evolved from the bandits on sardinia and the traditional banditry there.I also read, that sardinians "teached" the mafia in sizily and the ndrangheta to kidnap and that ,when kidnapping on the mainland of italy becamme big, mostly sardinians were involved.the mafias used this money to start selling drugs.
now my questions;are there newer informations on the situation there?why is ther no sardinian mafia?

I actually lived in Sardinia from 1984-1988. I was in the US Navy and there were times that the US Government issued "travel restrictions" and certain islands/cities/area "off limits" to US personnel. The biggest one I remember was when the Maxi Trial was going on in Palermo, Sicily during 1986 - 1987. If I remember correctly, most of that trial was the result of The Pizza Connection (Herione Trafficking between the Sicilian Mafiosi & The US La Cosa Nostra) bust in 1984. They would smuggle herione in cans of tomatoes, etc. and distribute through mob owned pizzerias. By the way, the tiny pizzeria that was busted in Polo, Illinois is not far from where I live. This pizzeria's pay phone was bugged by the Feds and eventually led to the toppling of the entire operation. The owner of this pizzeria was a "Fredo" and couldn't remember any of the "code words" the mafiosi established when communicating orders, etc. and people on the phone with this guy grew tiresome of his idiocy and had to actually name names and locations for "Fredo" to understand. That was all the Feds needed. Coincidentally, the same family that owned the pizzeria in Polo, Illinois had one here in my town. One day in 1984 it just closed and there was no explanation or nobody left at the shop. It all made sense a couple of years later - lol. Any way, I can't speak to what OC (if any) is like in Sardinia today but take my word for it - it was there and present in the mid to late 80's. I was schooled by my landlord very well as to the "way it was" in Sardinia.

Sardinia has been used as a a way to launder money by Italians, Corsicans and who knows who else. Locally, there has to be someone who's in charge of rackets...I know that sardinians live till they're 110, but I'm sure that you can get there the same crap that you can find anywhere else in Italy.

Yeah - I did see a lot of "old school" banditry similar to what the early Mafiosi were doing in Sicily. There are parts of Sardinia that look the same from like 100 years ago. Luan - you are so right... my landlord's aunts & uncles were well into their 90's and loved American Marlboro Red Cigarettes and any American Beer. They were sharp as tacks and had all their faculties! With the Navy PX, I was able to help them out with those vices! smile
And reduce my rent!
