Yesterday, on Fox News Channel, there was a report that USA network is in the developing stages of a weekly Scarface series based on the movie! Did anyone else see this report or hear about it!

Yeah I heard of this possible developement for a television show. I imagine they would like to take their time casting and making the pilot episode though.

My prediction is that it wont be any good. Its all just for money.

Excuse me for being frank, but isn't the purpose of all TV shows to get ratings, which in turn warrants advertising sales, which in turn brings in money?

Even if they did have a Scarface on network TV, would it be any good with the censor boards? I mean Cmon, can you imagine The Sopranos on USA or Fox..The only crime show that can get away with being "real" on TV is The Shield..which is an excellent show.

Amen! The Shield is the best show on TV right now. I have Season One on DVD, and I'm getting Season Two shortly. I'm dying of anticipation for Season Three to come on air; they've delayed it several times.

A lot of TV shows are based on the writers artistic vision, and they just want other people to watch it. Of course they want to make money from it, becuase its their job. If Scarface were made into a TV series, it wouldnt be becuase it was someones good idea, it would be because a TV company commisioned a writer to make a shoot-em-up Scarface TV series. And I just dont think that THAT will do the film justice.

I agree with Meggie. The censoring would ruin it completly! Plus I doubt the casting would be that great.

I'm sure the show be on prime time late and will be allowed more freedom. I wonder what director they'll choose to direct the pilot episode and the casting calls.

Has anyone heard anything new about this!? I can't believe that they are gonna make a TV series, that would be so sweet! Any release date (I know it's early, but what they're shooting for)?

Now what the hell are they going to use for a plot? Sounds stupid to me, someone just wants more money. This may come back to haunt me because I will probably end up loving it.

The Al Pacino film classic "Scarface" is about to be reinvented for the 21st century according to The Hollywood Reporter. The USA Network is developing an updated four hour mini-series version that restages the gangster classic with a black cast in inner-city Los Angeles during the crack epidemic of the 1980s.

Production could begin as early as this Fall for a 2005 debut and "The Shield" Producer Charles "Chic" Eglee is developing the project. Rather than a direct remake with a simple setting change, they are "creating a new cast loosely based on most of the primary characters instead of literally revisiting them".



But surely I'm not expecting much. I'd rather have seen Dejohn's novel used instead.

Well at least this new series won't defame the legecy of the 1983 version of Scarface. How are the characters going to be "loosely based?" Well, since they've done Italians, Cubans, and now African-Americans, I've got my fingers crossed for an Irish remake in my life time. Who knows, maybe I'll direct it!

Pretty soon, they will also have a Native American edition (peace pipes instead of crack), Swahili (wild mushrooms), and finally, Asian (opium). The British version will just feature four guys with funny haircuts and can sing really good, but will use LSD, and won't be involving drug dealing, rather this "Fab Four" will struggle to stay together as a band, and tour the world
